Top 10 Favorite Metal Bands

My top 10 favorite metal bands of all-time. Not neccessarily any metal, some are death, blackened-death, etc... but they are strictly my favorites.
10Lamb Of God

Lamb of God, Pure American Metal at it's finest. Some think they're a heap of crap, and some love them. But they have written some of the best groove-metal that has been heard in years. Mixing a style of old-school groove-based Pantera inspired music with the raw intensity of modern death metal.
9Children Of Bodom

Their fanbase is rather split, you're either old school CoB or new school CoB... or both, like me. But no matter which you are a fan of, you can all agree that CoB is one of metal's finest.
8Dimmu Borgir

The relatively new, symphonic black metal band, has risen from the depths of the late 90s plethora of great bands to become one of the prominent names in metal. And they are there rightfully so.

These guys have been around since 1983, and don't get me wrong, they have lost a lot musically. However, their aggression and rawness is still as strong as ever. Arguably, their classics may never be touched by any other, but they are still giving all they have, even if they're in their 40s.

Metallica has been one of my favorites since... the day I was born? Their first controversial album was released on my birthday, and just happens to be the first one I heard and the first one I loved. The Black Album turned me towards MoP, and since then I have been enjoying their godly tunes. R.I.P. Cliff Burton
5Cannibal Corpse

Cannibal Corpse, the band every parent fears, was once the head of what is known as "gore-metal". However, these "baby-eating monsters called men" have retained their musical abilities without sounding restrained, since 1990.

Often a lot of controversy is sparked when bringing them up. Surely, their pre-CFH days were... different to say the least. However, Dimebag was one of the best guitarists of all-time and has pumped out some of the finest tunes metal has seen.

Opeth has been and always will be one of the finest metal bands ever. Beautiful harmonies and clean tones mixed with the heaviness and brutality of Death Metal makes these guys a fantastic listen.

Death is the almighty band, head by Vocalist / Lead Guitarist Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P.), that was always changing, and rising above the competition. The only permanent member the band has ever had was Chuck, and may he R.I.P. as the most prolific writer in Death Metal history.

Only discovered them about 8 months ago, but since then they have been my favorite. Nergal has to be in the Top 3 when it comes to musical composers (2000-2010 at least). Not to mention the incredible drumming of Inferno. Aggressive, and relentless. That's what I love.
