03.11.10 | Disagree with 2. 4 is classic and should be higher. Even 3 is better than 2.
BMTH suck anus. Surely they're not 'Deathcore' though.
|
intothepit83
03.11.10 | you claim that the "deathcore" genre is pointless and really annoying, yet you say you've really only listened to one band? also, you could take the description from "deathcore" and add it to "metalcore." |
Cerbyrus

03.11.10 | i honestly don't think metalcore is as better than thrash all the time, but those few bands like ABR and Botch puts it above the relatively un-varied style of thrash, and melo-death is very good but again its the same thing so thats why i have metalcore up higher |
eternium
03.11.10 | Needs doom, stoner, sludge as Cerbyrus said, as well as post-metal, original heavy metal, nu-metal, alternative metal, industrial metal, groove, and grindcore.
Post-metal is my personal favorite. |
Insurrection
03.11.10 | "nu-metal"
Not metal. |
Brokenjewel
03.11.10 | It used to be 'noisecore' in the UK.
Converge, Botch etc |
eternium
03.11.10 | Nu-metal is metal.. get over it. |
jesusjuice1179
03.11.10 | @Cerbyrus: i haven't listened to enough doom/sludge/stoner metal to put it on the list, read the description
@pit: i only needed to listen to one band to put me off to the rest cuz if i don't like the genre then how would i like other bands in the same genre, if that makes sense;)
also, metalcore is generic, but as in my little description, those few metalcore bands make it much more enjoyable than deathcore |
Insurrection
03.11.10 | "Nu-metal is metal.. get over it."
It has way more in common with hard rock than metal. |
jesusjuice1179
03.11.10 | @eternium: i consider grindcore to be part of the punk family so thats why its not on here and again, and i can't stress this enough...READ THE DESRCIPTION AT THE TOP OF THE LIST! |
eternium
03.11.10 | Right, because Pantera, who apparently influenced and gave birth to nu-metal, was hard rock. |
BallsToTheWall
03.11.10 | what are the fucking ratings? |
Insurrection
03.11.10 | Pantera is heavy/groove metal.
But I'm saying overall, most nu-metal sounds more like hard rock than heavy metal. |
Sowing
03.11.10 | i completely agree with this list |
bungy
03.11.10 | Folky Black Metal for me. Sometimes 1 and 2 and every once in a while 3 and 5. |
jesusjuice1179
03.11.10 | @Balls: what do u mean? |
Brokenjewel
03.11.10 | *metalcore is generic*
A genre is generic? Well, I'll be damned. |

03.11.10 | Perfect. Except Power Metal behind Black. |
Brokenjewel
03.11.10 | and dude, judging a genre by one band....that's crazy.
All genres have some classic and some guff. |
jesusjuice1179
03.11.10 | @Jewel: i know but i just hate BMTH so much, that i get the feeling that all other deathcore would suck, also im not into the whole death growl thing and its lack of melody puts me off to it entirely |

03.11.10 | I've never heard a good deathcore band. Decent at best.
Metalcore should be separated between the early bands, who were more hardcore based and better, and the melodic metalcore bands who don't sound too much like the older bands and play riffs more like melodic death metal, but less interesting and sound the same. Because seriously, Killswitch Engage doesn't sound much like Botch. |
theacademy
03.11.10 | metalcore + nu metal + prog metal + thrash metal
only 4 you'll ever need
melodeath on sundays, but otherwise, you're fine with the big 4. |
Dryden
03.11.10 | bad list |
jesusjuice1179
03.11.10 | @eternium: u have a point, but i kinda just conglomerated the metalcore bands into the single, over-arching label cuz the two styles, while different, aren't as distinctive to me as saay death metal and melodic death metal if that makes sense |
Brokenjewel
03.11.10 | @eternium - good point man. The term is too broad, its become meaningless.
@jesusjuice - BMTH are the worst pile of trash ever man, I can see why they'd put you off. I'm just getting back into this stuff, I'm stuck in 90s defintions of metalcore etc.
Metalcore used to be Morning Again, Shai Hulud etc |
cvlts
03.11.10 | jesusjuice, your explanation for metalcore can also apply for deathcore.
yeah, the genre gets effing flak for bands like BMTH and The Acacia Strain and shit, but there are decent bands like Animosity, All Shall Perish, Glass Casket and The Red Chord that do the genre proud.
check those bands out if you haven't and get back at me if you still feel the same way about the genre. |
eternium
03.11.10 | I listened to those bands and I still despise deathcore as much as I did before. |
jesusjuice1179
03.11.10 | @Genocide: I've heard both The Red Chord and All Shall Perish and i can honestly say that i hate their music, the technicality is good, but i hate the whole idea that technicality takes precedence over songwriting and melody, so my explanation of metalcore doesn't apply to deathcore(at least not for me) because there are those few bands who are really good, instead of deathcore where i find none of the bands to be appealing |
beefshoes
03.11.10 | BMTH are better than Emmure. |
Brokenjewel
03.11.10 | beefshoes, no dude. Emmure suck penischeese but they had one almost listenable album. BMTH are AIDS made audible. |

03.11.10 | So you kids seem to think ultra specific genre's are important. So two questions?
What's Mathcore
What's Opeth (Stilllife, Blackwater) |
jesusjuice1179
03.11.10 | im just spitballin here, but mathcore involves math...maybe...?
Opeth is porgressive death metal |
eternium
03.11.10 | Opeth is progressive death metal.
Mathcore is a very dissonant and complex (especially with timing) brand of metalcore, such as Botch and Dillinger Escape Plan. |
couldwinarabbit
03.11.10 | I find that mathcore (well I only have Jane Doe) has strange time signatures and it's full of breakdowns. |
eternium
03.11.10 | Metalcore in general tends to have breakdowns. (deathcore molested the idea)
Anyway, everyone go call rabbit a douche in his shoutbox. Everyone's doing it! |
beefshoes
03.11.10 | Well I like this list with the exception of #4. I like Metallica's old Ride The Lightning-AJFA and a little Testament. I cannot stand Megadeth, Slayer.... Maybe its the vocals. idk |

03.22.10 | what do you mean, Mctasty |
Yeahtoast
03.22.10 | BMTH is almost enough to turn anyone off music in general...ew
I seriously wouldn't give up on the genre that easy when you've only heard an excuse for a deathcore band
Try All Shall Perish or Suicide Silence |
jesusjuice1179
03.22.10 | i've heard All Shall Perish and The Red Chord, and i just don't like it. I like Hardcore and Death Metal to an extent, but i just can't get into the combination of the two |
