03.05.10 | Converge - Jane Doe... go forth and listen. You'll probably be wtf after 1 listen but keep at it, you'll like it eventually. |
Romulus
03.05.10 | Guys if you're gonna rec him stuff make it something a tad more accessible than Converge and Opeth |

03.05.10 | You seem like a nice guy, but looking at your ratings, being a Nickelback fan is going to make you a serious target for the jerks on here. I've been through the same thing. You might like these albums:
Shinedown - The Sound of Madness
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Radiohead - The Bends
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
Nirvana - Nevermind
Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory |
Bullitt
03.05.10 | After Converge check out Burzum, it's right up your alley.
Then check out:
Alter Bridge-Blackbird
Ra-From One
Devin Townsend- Ocean Machine |
Brokenjewel
03.05.10 | Get Up Kids - Something to Write Home About
The Weakerthans - Left and Leaving
Neither are as poppy as the ones on your list but they are both still very melodic with absolutely cracking lyrics.
And there's nothing wrong with a bit of pop. I love obscure, difficult and resoundingly intelligent music but I still whip on a bit of Fall Out Boy now and then. Yes they're syrupy, but they have some caustic, witty lyrics and a great energy in their songs. 4 and 5 are both excellent records.
Nickleback, however... in time you may think of them differently, dude. This site will point you towards some gold. |
Slipping Away
03.05.10 | absolutley do not start with converge or some of the bands that people are rec'ing, go with what dylan said. I'm kinda suprised this hasn't turned into a shitstorm yet. |
Brokenjewel
03.05.10 | Oh, I second Propagandhi aswell - they are brilliant.
Maybe some NOFX, too... Punk in Drublic has some musical chops goin' on. |
Sowing
03.05.10 | 1 - good
2 - good
3 - not good
4 - decent
5 - i actually really like this too
You remind me of me before I really got into different types of music. I used to like the same kind of stuff.
You'll expand upon your tastes here, but def. don't rush into listening to something like converge or opeth. Try Anberlin, Brand New, Thrice, Breaking Benjamin, Incubus, Muse, and Taking Back Sunday.
Stuff like that is close enough to your current taste, but it'll get you to branch out a little more. After you try some of these, then maybe try something a little less accessible. Bands like Opeth and Converge seem like they are a long way off for you though. |
qwe3
03.05.10 | welll...2 and 4 are fine. |
AnotherBrick1
03.05.10 | 1 is decent the rest suck...especially 4 |
EVedder27

03.05.10 | Actually, my experience was that a real jolt to the system can open up a pesron's taste. I was the total Greenday kid and someone gave me an Earth Crisis record. I hated it, but... it kept getting played. It was interesting to me. Then, kablammo! I got Calculating Infinity and the whole world went tits up. |
JWT155
03.05.10 | I was being half sarcastic when I rec'd Converge BTW... if the beginning of my statement afterwards wasn't hinting at that. |
Disconnected
03.06.10 | Try listening to:
Sonic Youth - Goo
Muse - Origin of Symmetry
Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step
Cold - Year of the Spider
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
Those should be somewhat close to your musical taste, while giving you a chance to expand it.
If you want to be adventurous, try:
Opeth - Morningrise
Dream Theater - Octavarium
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
The Flaming Lips - Embryonic
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Radiohead - OK Computer
|
Brokenjewel
03.06.10 | For a slightly more edgy pop sound try Set Your Goals - This Will Be The Death Of Us.
Paramore's Riot! is quite good, too. |
chirky
03.06.10 | Wow i have never seen sooooooo many people in love with one band like Coverage... It doesn't matter if a person asking for recs likes something as crap as Billy Ray Cyrus you're going to rec Coverage... Anyone would think you guys are talking about Peral Jam or something... I don't mind my metal at all but Coverage has to be one of the most over-rated bands getting around!!! Lol i can't wait to see the death threats i get for that!!! |
intothepit83
03.06.10 | "An immature but at the same time shockingly mature album. Bathroom humor aside, this record shows a level of songwriting ability rarely seen in bands."
Lol, this is a joke, right? |

03.06.10 | Haha i actually just saw what your name is "Salmonella". My last name is Salmon... Not that it matters though its just funny... |
Brokenjewel
03.06.10 | @chirky - Converge are an excellent band, dude. They have matured with each release they have put out and yet retained their overall sound at the same time. They get so much appreciation because of their artistic merit and integrity, which is hard to deny even if your not a fan. |
chirky
03.06.10 | Brokenjewel - maybe i should actually have a proper squize at them before i making judgements... I'll have a crack and get back to ya... Cheers... |

03.06.10 | Some of the best in mainstream rock imo:
Alter Bridge: Blackbird
Shinedown: Sound of Madness
Breaking Benjamin: Dear Agony
Ra: From One
And although I'm one of the few on here that will admit to enjoying some Nickelback, you will definitely reconsider the album ratings after listening to more music. |
Brokenjewel
03.06.10 | @chirky - yeah, I'm all for a bit of F.U attitude myself. Have you ever tried a bit of hardcore? Reign Supreme's Testing The Limits of Infinite is simple and angry as hell. |
tson101
03.06.10 | You would like the Wonder Years
|
chips85
05.15.10 | Good list but not perfect, blink 182s album (enema) is one of the greatest no doubt about that. |

Janus-Red Right Return
Rise Against-The Sufferer and the Witness
Rise Against-Revolutions Per Minute |

05.15.10 | And 3 isn't THAT bad compared to their new shit. |
