IRAI
03.03.10 | some good ones here |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | a lot of american metal/hardcore is amazing, but if you're looking at the bigger picture, my opinion is that european metal has more of a selection of great metal than the US |
TRMshadow
03.03.10 | 123 to list
Every single one of these are amazing. I Just got Souls at Zero in the mail and I'm loving it. |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | I got Revocation after reading a positive magazine review but i've struggled to get into it for some reason. Love 8 and 9, and 17 is an absolute classic. All in all a pretty good argument for American metal. You can't argue with a bit of Maiden though. And there's a bit of a rennaiscence happeneing in English metal at the moment. |
Consigliere
03.03.10 | Gotta agree, most of the albums on this list are amazing, but i've got one word for you, Opeth. |
couch
03.03.10 | inb4shitstorm |
WhiteWallStargazers
03.03.10 | both have their plus and minuses |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | The problem is there's barely any good black metal. Plus Dream Theater sucks. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | i got a few more for him, consigliere...
early in flames

03.03.10 | I got a lot too:
EVERY GOOD BLACK METAL BAND EVER |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | ^agreed |
Yazz_Flute
03.03.10 | I thought SYL were canadian? |
Consigliere
03.03.10 | Yeah, what intothepit83 said too, forgot about those... Anathema too. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | maybe he means North American? |
SCREAM!
03.03.10 | If you meant American as in USA then SYL doesn't belong here. If you meant it as the continent then nvm that.
Anyway, america has a lot of great metal but i agree that if you look at the bigger picture, Europe has it beat |
Yazz_Flute
03.03.10 | oh that's a good point...apologies for the ignorance |
MUNGOLOID
03.03.10 | nice choices but seriously needs some system of a down. |
eternium
03.03.10 | America, England, and Sweden are the best metal countries.
England had the first bands, but has been lacking a lot since. |
SCREAM!
03.03.10 | Check out All The Empires Of The World and Devil Sold His Soul, two amazing psot metal bands out of england |
eternium
03.03.10 | Where can I listen to 9 without downloading? |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | eternium: you gotta add germany in there, too. you cannot forget about kreator or sodom, probably two of the top 5 thrash metal acts of all time |
eternium
03.03.10 | Yeah, but Germany doesn't have quantity. The Ocean is the best German band, imo. |
SCREAM!
03.03.10 | Germany has Disillusion and Disillusion had Back To Times Of Splendor
Nuff said |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | eternium: i agree that germany doesn't have the quantity. i think the fact that when you name a german metal act, 99.9% of the time it's as good as it gets. that's just my opinion though |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | How could you not mention Norway? |
eternium
03.03.10 | Because most black metal is meh, with a few exceptions. |
barneygumble
03.03.10 | strapping young lad is Canadian... |
SCREAM!
03.03.10 | Yeah but Norway pioneered the genre and should be respected for it |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | BigTuna: Instead of Sweden, I'd just say all of Scandinavia.
Eternium: I'm gonna simplify my last comment cuz it's confusing even me. With Germany, it's not about quantity, it's about quality.
God, that was so much easier. |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | "Because most black metal is meh"
lol
Besides, if you're going to claim a country is the "best" metal country and completely avoid an integral genre, that's just ridiculous. Norway might not be the "best" metal country but it is one of the most influential. |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | I think the best recent entries into English metal have come from Rinoa, Burning Skies and Johnny Truant. I often see the dudes from Napalm Death mooching about. |
eternium
03.03.10 | Diversity has a lot to do with it for me.
America has the most diversity without saying, Sweden has everything from melodic death metal to post-metal to grindcore, even Germany has industrial, thrash, and metalcore.
Norway is mostly just black metal with a little death. |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | I have no idea what relevance my last statement has - I'm just tired. |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | I would agree, but America has NO black metal (maybe Wolves) and I'm saying that's a problem because it's an essential genre. |
bloc
03.03.10 | In terms of today's younger acts, UK metal kills American metal. |
eternium
03.03.10 | America has black metal. Wolves, Agolloch, Abigal Williams, and Xasthur. Not much, because the only place with a black metal mood (Alaska) is full of rednecks and Eskimos. |
SCREAM!
03.03.10 | Way to forget Panopticon and Leviathan |
HugCrewLoveRoll
03.03.10 | yeah, UK have Bring'zz Meh Teh OHrizon |
eternium
03.03.10 | I don't listen to black metal much at all, so forgive me.
Again, where can I listen to 9? |
TricksterGRex
03.03.10 | people who dont kno shit about bm itt |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | God I hate Bring Me the Horizon. Saw them at Download and they sucked some major balls right there. Chugga, chugga, chugga-weakscream-chugga, chugga. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | bring'zz meh teh ohrizon is the perfect example of what is wrong with metal today |
SCREAM!
03.03.10 | eternium: Try youtube, not sure where else unless you dl it |
eternium
03.03.10 | I've tried YouTube.
There's only like, three songs on there. The burden of underground music. |
cirq
03.03.10 | America is the best at everything. |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | Really have to agree with you intothepit. And the singer is an arrogant twat. I saw him pick a fight with a kid in Nottingham and the kid's brother beat him to the ground. Satisfying. |
eternium
03.03.10 | Didn't he piss on a girl?
He's so arrogant, he thinks he's R. Kelly. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | Brokenjewel: Nothing like a bunch of wanna-be tough guy scene faggots who can't control their liquor picking a fight with a guy that doesn't really give a fuck. |
FeralMemories
03.03.10 | You guys got me with SYL. I totally forgot about that. So I replaced it with some good old fashioned Nile. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | nile always works |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | Blimey. I never knew Nile were American. I bought one of their albums a few years back that had some Egyptian chanting on it, which was nice. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | nile's a good ol' southern american death metal band with egyptian influences. genius |
FeralMemories
03.03.10 | Im actually neutral in the argument right now. I'll make 2 more lists, one for europe and one for the rest of the world, and then I'll probably just decide that I just love metal. xD |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | good point. why can't we all just get along(in metal)? |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | Yeah, let's start our own nation. We could call it Valhalla, or...er...Metal-land. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | One nation.... under metal.... praise be to Odin |
Illitoris
03.03.10 | yeah man, discordance axis is sum sick metal |
Brokenjewel
03.03.10 | Thor is good too. Big on DIY. |
