Battle Of The Bands [FINAL]

The EPIC SHOWDOWN is finally here. After almost a month and over 1,000 votes cast, we are finally at the end. Almost. There are only two bands left, voted on by you. They have beaten out everyone else they have faced, and now they have to face off against each other. I think you all know how it works now, so I won't even bother posting the rules. This round will go on for three days, allowing more time for votes, ending on Saturday. Here we go...
1Godspeed You! Black Emperor

ROUND 3 WINNER -- Latest album: Tiny Silver Hammers (EP) / Average Sputnik rating: 3.91 / Often praised as one of the greatest Post-Rock bands, Godspeed You! Black Emperor formed in Montreal, 1994. The band began with three members, but usually has nine, and has contained as many as 15. The group's unique and volatile sound is a mix of classical, avant-garde, and progressive, with most of their songs broken up into symphonic movements. Godspeed's music is all instrumental, save eerie spoken samples sometimes incorporated to enhance the dark mood, most noticeably on the album "f#a#?". The band is opposed to self-publicizing, with a lot of the members being anarchists, and most of their fan base is made by word-of-mouth. Godspeed You! Black Emperor went on an indefinite hiatus in 2003, and show no signs of reforming soon.
2Opeth

ROUND 18 (WILD CARD ROUND) WINNER -- Round 5, 2nd Place - Latest album: Burden / Average Sputnik score: 3.65 / Ask any metal fan in the world and they'll tell you there's no band quite like Opeth. Since 1990, Opeth (Stockholm, Sweden) has been writing some of the most unique and extreme progressive metal ever created. With roots spanning from death metal to jazz and 70's progressive, Opeth is an extreme act like no other. Mikael Akerfeldt's voice shifts between the most soothing clean singing ever heard and the most menacing death metal growls this side of the threshold of hell. With him and Peter Lindgren making up the guitar arsenal, their riffs flow with atmosphere as well as a beautiful acoustic side and blues-influenced metal solos. The rhythm section is near perfect with Mendez and Axenrot providing the clean, subtle basslines and jazz/Latin-influenced drums. Despite the unusual influences for a band such as this, Opeth blends their distinct influences into an undeniably progressive metal sound.
