Battle Of The Bands [Quarter-Final 4]

Quarter-final 4. Brand New won last time in a surprisingly close round. Here's the next round. The rules: - Each round there will be three bands - The band who receives the most votes (via comments) moves on to the next round. - Each round lasts 24 hours. - Only one vote each round per member. - There were preliminary rounds, these are quarter-finals, and next are the semi-finals, and finally the finals - In the event of a tie, a faceoff will occur between the disputed albums. - The final two will be an EPIC SHOWDOWN! So, let's get started: NOTE: The 'average sputnik rating' I get by adding all of the bands album ratings together and averaging them out.
1Radiohead

ROUND 10 WINNER -- Latest album: Right Place Right Time DVD / Average Sputnik rating: 3.73 / Radiohead is a British band with a very... ahem... 'different' sound. Actually, they have no true definable sound, as it changes from album to album. This is part of the allure of Radiohead - what the Hell are they gonna do next? Their first taste of success was from MTV's promotion of their single "Creep" off of their Pop/Rock debut album, Pablo Honey, and Radiohead initially went for a sound that drew inspiration from U2, 80's rock, and the new music of the 90's. Their second album, The Bends, met with huge acclaim and success, and defined a solid guitar rock sound for the band. It also moved away from much of the sound of the prior album. Their third release, OK Computer, caught everyone off guard - an epic alternative album, loaded with rollicking emotion, incredible instrumentation, with heaps of texture and dynamic as well as some electronica and trip-hop influences. For their next trick, they would explore these influences, mostly electronica and a kind of "Intelligent Techno", surprising everyone who was sure that this band had "no surprises" left. Their next albums were not guitar oriented albums at all, and sounded like nothing the band had ever produced before.
2Pig Destroyer

ROUND 11 WINNER -- Latest album: Natasha / Average Sputnik rating: 3.67 (thanks FeralMemories ;) / Ever seen a train wreck? Imagine that in a sonic form and that is Pig Detroyer. Formed in '97 in Virginia Pig Destroyer are one of the most popular grind bands lately. Utilizing elements of thrash and doom metal along with a major dash of original American Hardcore, Pig Destroyer play old school grindcore on meth and have gained a bit of a cult following. One signature trademark is the lack of a bassist from any of their music they have ever done.
3Refused

ROUND 12 WINNER -- Latest album: Refused Are F*cking Dead / Average Sputnik rating: 3.55 / Refused were a Hardcore Punk band from Ume? in Sweden who formed in 1992 and split in 1998. They are most widely known for their influential record The Shape Of Punk To Come, released in '98 prior to their breakup. Cited as highly influential in the contemporary post-hardcore and hardcore Punk scenes, Refused were a distincly politically-driven band, led by charismatic front-man Dennis Lyxz?n.
