Battle Of The Bands [part 13]

Round 13 of 18. Refused took the last round. This round is a battle of three guitar virtuosos, and should be very interesting. Enjoy! Here are the rules again: - Each round there will be three bands - The band who receives the most votes (via comments) moves on to the next round. - Each round lasts 24 hours. - Only one vote each round per member. - These are the preliminary rounds, then there are also quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals - In the event of a tie, a faceoff will occur between the disputed albums. - The final two will be an EPIC SHOWDOWN! So, let's get started: NOTE: The 'average sputnik rating' I get by adding all of the bands album ratings together and averaging them out.
1Buckethead

Latest album: Shadows Between The Sky / Average Sputnik rating: 3.49 / The enigma known as Buckethead has confused many a person. Even as an avid fanboy, I can honestly say that I understand why people are so off-put by him. It?s a freakishly tall man with long curly hair wearing an upturned KFC bucket on his head and a Michael Myers-esque mask. While he is known as a very talented multi-instrumentalist he?s just as prone to manic, high energy solos as he is to breaking out his nunchuks and robot dancing. A lot of people just know him as the ex-guitarist for the ?new? Guns ?n? Roses. If one looks deeper, however, they?ll find that Buckethead?s not just incredibly technically talented but he?s also one of the most creative, versatile, and quirky musicians out there today. I beseech all of you to keep an open mind. If you?ve heard one of his albums and have been turned off by it, keep reading and give an album that sounds more your style a chance. If you only know him from Guns ?n? Roses, keep reading and step into his world. If you?ve only vaguely heard of him, keep reading as you might find something that you love. Plus you can act pretentious when people have never heard of him! High-fives all around!
2Joe Satriani

Latest album: Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock / Average Sputnik rating: 3.88 / Along with teaching some of the top rock guitar players of the '80s and '90s, Joe Satriani is one of the most technically accomplished and widely respected guitarists to emerge in recent times. Born on July 15, 1956, in Westbury, NY, and raised in the nearby town of Carle Place, Satriani -- inspired by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix -- picked up the guitar at the age of 14 (although he was initially more interested in the drums). Quickly learning the instrument, Satriani began teaching guitar to others and found a kindred spirit in one of his students, Steve Vai. By the late '70s, however, Satriani had relocated to Berkeley, CA. With his sights set on his own musical career, "Satch" kept teaching others, including such future rock notables as Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Larry LaLonde (Primus), David Bryson (Counting Crows), and jazz fusion player Charlie Hunter.
3Paul Gilbert

Latest album: Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar / Average Sputnik rating: 3.8 / Paul Brandon Gilbert (born November 6, 1966 in Illinois, USA) is an American musician. He is well known for his guitar work with Racer X and Mr. Big, as well as many solo albums. He also joined Joe Satriani and John Petrucci on the 2007 G3 tour. He has been voted number 4 on a list in GuitarOne magazine of the "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time", as well as a spot in Guitar World's 50 Fastest Guitarists of All Time list.
