Battle Of The Bands [part 9]

Round 9 of 18. Well, we're halfway through the preliminary rounds. So far there have been some landslides (rounds 7 and 8) and some surprising upsets (1, 5). This is a round featuring three bands, all of whom contain the infamous Mike Patton. Enjoy! Here are the rules again: - Each round there will be three bands - The band who receives the most votes (via comments) moves on to the next round. - Each round lasts 24 hours. - Only one vote each round per member. - These are the preliminary rounds, then there are also quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals - In the event of a tie, a faceoff will occur between the disputed albums. - The final two will be an EPIC SHOWDOWN! So, let's get started: NOTE: The 'average sputnik rating' I get by adding all of the bands album ratings together and averaging them out.
1Faith No More

Latest album: The Very Best / Average Sputnik rating: 3.74 / Faith No More. You've heard of them. You've heard their over the top single, Epic. You may have seen the video. However , if you don't own any of their albums, you really haven't heard Faith No More. An eclectic mix of metal, rock, funk, rap, pop, punk, swing, and pure insanity, it's a sound that can hardly be defined by one album, let alone one song. Probably one of the most underrated and talented rock bands to come out of the nineties, they probably have more listeners now than when they were together. Famous for infighting, the struggles in the studio usually led to music than was entirely o ...read more

2Fantomas

Latest album: Suspended Animation / Average Sputnik rating: 3.68 / One of Mike Patton's many projects, Fantomas are also a supergroup, containing members of thrash-metal legends Slayer, Patton's very own Mr Bungle, and alternative icons The Melvins. Releasing borderline unclassifiable music, sometimes referred to as "cartoon metal", they seem intent on pushing musical boundaries as far as they can go, as is most obviously shown on their 74 minute 1 track album, "Delirium Cordia".
3Mr. Bungle

Latest album: California / Average Sputnik rating: 3.61 / Mr. Bungle are an experimental band, consisting of guitarist Trey Spruance, drummer Danny Heifetz, bassist Trevor Dunn, alto sax player Theo Lengel, tenor sax player Clinton McKinnon and vocalist Mike Patton. Creating eclectic, abstract music happens to be their specialty. Mr. Bungle, the first release from the band, featured rapid changes in music along with encompassing many different styles. This would later pave the way for 1995's Disco Volante, their least accessible album to date. California, the band's last release, features songs in the styles of the beach boys, the entire album being based mainly off the eponymous state. There are mixed feelings in the band getting back together, some members saying it could happen, and some denying these claims.
