Battle Of The Bands [part 3]

With RX Bandits taking the first round, and Circle Takes The Square the second, the winner of this round will face off against those two when the quarter-finals come along. Here are the rules again. - Each round there will be three bands - The band who receives the most votes (via comments) moves on to the next round. - Each round lasts 24 hours. - Only one vote each round per member. - These are the preliminary rounds, then there are also quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals - In the event of a tie, a faceoff will occur between the disputed albums. - The final two will be an EPIC SHOWDOWN! So, let's get started: NOTE: The 'average sputnik rating' I get by adding all of the bands album ratings together and averaging them out.
1Explosions In The Sky

Latest album: All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone / Average Sputnik rating: 3.75 / With the ability to entrance their listeners with simple melodies and instrumentation, Explosions in the Sky have become one of the premier post rock bands to emerge from the genre. From subtle build-ups to epic crescendos, the band have carved their niche through albums such as "How Strange, Innocence" and "The Rescue," Volume 21 in the Travels in Constants mail-order series. Their recent release, "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone" adds yet another facet to the sound that has brought them the exposure and attention that they have garnered, and it is exciting to envision where the band will end up next.
2Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Latest album: Tiny Silver Hammers (EP) / Average Sputnik rating: 3.91 / Often praised as one of the greatest Post-Rock bands, Godspeed You! Black Emperor formed in Montreal, 1994. The band began with three members, but usually has nine, and has contained as many as 15. The group's unique and volatile sound is a mix of classical, avant-garde, and progressive, with most of their songs broken up into symphonic movements. Godspeed's music is all instrumental, save eerie spoken samples sometimes incorporated to enhance the dark mood, most noticeably on the album "f#a#?". The band is opposed to self-publicizing, with a lot of the members being anarchists, and most of their fan base is made by word-of-mouth. Godspeed You! Black Emperor went on an indefinite hiatus in 2003, and show no signs of reforming soon.
3Sigur Ros

Latest album: með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust / Average Sputnik rating: 3.86 / Sigur Rós an Icelandic band that create some of the most unusual sounds heard in recent music. Coming from Iceland, the band formed in 1994. The band use some pretty standard instruments, yet create a remarkable sound. Their instrumentation is just the standard guitar, drums, bass and keyboards. Guitarist and vocalist, Jónsi often uses a cello bow to play his guitar. One of the most unique things about Sigur Rós though, is Jónsi's vocals. In the words of the band's official site, the sound of Jónsi's voice is halfway between that of Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and a choir boy.
