| Sooo Chill
So basically I've spent the entire day in bed listening to like the chillest music ever, and out of boredom I decided to make my girlfriend a mix cd of the stuff I've been listening too. But I'm stumped :/. Here's the kinda stuff I have, please rec more. And if you really wanna stroke my shaft put the link to the zip file. Thanks. | 1 | | Stars Of The Lid And Their Refinement Of The Decline
Incredibly dense with such organic, raw beauty - to understand the sound of the minimalist gods, Stars Of The Lid is a privilege and to fall in love with it is, angelic, in lack of a better term. It is not that this is so full of pretense, that only the "elite" can follow it, infact it is quite the opposite. Everything is so beautifully guileless - there are no masturbatory guitar solos or hollow hooks making sure the listener can sing along. Its more that like the music is your sleep, leaving you free to dream and your brain to wander. And Their Refinement Of The Decline is the modern classical masterpiece that Stars Of The Lid have been striving to make for their entire critically acclaimed and celebrated career. From the dreary horns of the opener Dungtitled (in A Major) to the elegant piano strokes in Humectez La Mouture, from the distant and stunning composition A Meaningful Moment Through a Meaning(less) Process to the breathtaking cresendoing string arrangement in, maybe their most mesmerizng track, Tippy's Demise, SOTL have created a rest for your weary eyes and an inspiring soundtrack for your starving mind. | 2 | | Fennesz Black Sea
Forgot how incredible this is. Gorgeous and lush, and as I see from my old soundoff, I didnt like this as much as I did on my recent relistens. I havent't heard a record capture the feeling of the sea so well. | 3 | | The Dead Texan The Dead Texan
The acoustic guitar in A Chronicle of Early Failures Part 1 still gets me.. | 4 | | Stars Of The Lid Carte-De-Visite
As you can tell I've been on a massive SOTL kick as of late, and I've decided they are one of my favorite artists. This is possibly the best b-sides and outtakes record I've ever heard. Everything is so cohesive and stunning, I may write a review for it tonight once I loose interest in this Bloons Tower Defense 4 game. | 5 | | Film School alwaysnever
Though I'm trying to stay away from vocals on this record I heard I Just Turned Into Gas for the first time today and its too amazing not to put on this. Amazing ep. | 6 | | Sigur Ros Untitled 1 EP
Question, how the eff did 9A did not make it on ( )? Like its like my 4th favorite record of all time, but that track is soooo amazing. Like have jash13 send you it, without a doubt my favorite Single Ep ever. Will makes sense because Vaka's my favorite single. | 7 | | Arvo Part Tabula Rasa
Because the length of each track and how amazing this is I decided to just give her a copy of this but recs similar to this masterpiece would be deeply appreciated. | |

01.28.10 | See already knows Hammock, Brian Eno, and I'm debating about putting Eluvium on, not sure. But I also need some more, minimalist ambient/ modern classical stuff so rec away. Thanks :). | Prophet178
01.28.10 | Give her Stella off Program Music I. | YouAreMySilence
01.28.10 | Yes! Was thinking "hey I need to download that again" but forgot.
Will try to find a link right.
Alex, youve heard Worlds End Girlfriend right? | Prophet178
01.28.10 | Yeah of course. Hurtbreak Wonderland is essential. | YouAreMySilence
01.28.10 | Thank God!
Agreed, the last track on that is incredible to say the least.
Have you heard all the records on my list? | Prophet178
01.28.10 | Only 1 and 2. I hear 3 is really good. | YouAreMySilence
01.28.10 | What do you think of them?
Yeah 3s pretty amazing. It was weird, I first heard the track I mention on House and searched for it for weeks and finally came across it and ironically it was from a side projecct of one of my favorite bands.
When your in the mood for some modern classical definatly give 7 a listen it is just breathtaking, maybe a classic.
But broheim you HAVE to give 6 a listen like right now.
Its only like twenty minutes long, including Vaka.
I can give you a link if you want. | Prophet178
01.28.10 | 1 is my favorite 'Lids album, my go-to homework album most of the time.
2 I haven't listened to in a while, but I remember it being good.
I'll check out 6, I haven't been in a Ros mood in a while. | MassiveAttack
01.28.10 | Honestly I couldn't handle SOTL at all. I gave it a 3/5, but my patience wore thin quickly. I'd recommend: Eluvium (as you posted earlier).
Autechre - Incunabula
Autechre - Amber
Ben Frost - Theory of Machines (Incredible stuff)
Brian Eno - The Drop (I've grown fond of this)
Chris Clark or Clark - Empty The Bones of You
Divination - Ambient Dub Vol. 2 - Dead Slow
Eluvium - Copia (Serene beyond imagination)
Eluvium - Talk Amongst The Trees
Loess - Wind and Water (Minimalistic electronic, good stuff)
Mathias Grassow - Namakar (Long sequences of ambient)
Robert Rich & B. Lustmord - Stalker (Incredibly dark ambient)
Steve Roach - Structures From Silence (Was recommended to me, is a fantastic representation of ambient and minimalism music)
The Orb - Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld (More electronic, groove based, but there are many ambient elements within)
Tim Hecker - Harmony In Ultraviolet (Probably his best)
Tim Hecker - Radio Amor (His first excellent piece of music under his original name)
Tim Hecker - An Imaginary Country (More restrained, but equally haunting and superb)
William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops II (Its really a 4-set of albums, but II is the best. Its a landmark ambient series, you need to hear it).

01.28.10 | Yeah I probably will put some Eluvium on, but truth be told I've kinda lost interest in them :/.
Thats weird that you say that about SOTL cause I would say the same about "Stalker." Though to be ffair I havent really given it more than two proper listens, I just really dont have the time.
And yeah I was just on the verge of downloading some Tim Hecker juts wasnt sure what his best is. | Banion
02.08.10 | "and if you really wanna stroke my shaft"
