Recent Gets & Looking Ahead
First 9 are recent gets. Last 6 are albums that I'm waiting to hear. |
1 | | Phoenix Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
The Vampire Weekend of 2009. So catchy & instantly likable. |
2 | | Sigh Hangman's Hymn
Much different than Imaginary Sonicscapes. Has much more of a black/symphonic feel, which is right
up their
alley. I'm also really excited about the guest appearances on this album (female vocals from Giant
Squid, solo
from The Red Chord's Gunface). |
3 | | Keith Merrow The Arrival
Awesome free album in the same vein as instrumental acts like Cloudkicker, Bulb, and Scale the Summit. |
4 | | Living Colour The Chair in the Doorway
I'm initially disappointed by this. The bass totally dominates the recording, and lacks the "feel" that I
expected. after listening to Vivid so many times. Am I missing something here, or is this just a
mediocre
album? |
5 | | Meshuggah Chaosphere
This album is waaay faster paced than I imagined. It's both a good and bad thing, but I feel like some
of
the weird grooves are lackluster because they blaze right through them (for example: "The Mouth
Licking
What You've Bled"). |
6 | | Pelican What We All Come to Need
I'm surprised this album got as much guff as it did from many sites/reviews. Sounds like a modified
version of
their older albums, but they've seem to have taken the Wavering Radiant approach by making things a
little
more concise and quicker-evolving. "Final Breath" is very refreshing - I never thought I could like
vocals in
Pelican and now I'm itching for more. |
7 | | Muse The Resistance
Another album that received way more guff than it should have. Seems like they've kinda turned into a
modern day Queen - this album is really diverse and catchy. |
8 | | Neurosis Times of Grace
One band I've never gave a shot (despite the hundreds of bands I listen to that are influenced by them)
and I feel like a fool for never doing so. Very glad I picked this up, a solid and addicting listen. This is
definitely gonna stay on the iPod and in the CD player for a while... |
9 | | Lye By Mistake Fea Jur
Whoa. Intense, jazzy, and smart. You will wanna give this a listen if you're a fan of Behold... The
Arctopus,
Spastic Ink, Animals as Leaders, etc. These guys rip. |
10 | | Sigh Scenes from Hell
If the artwork is any indication of how awesome this will be, we're in for a real treat. |
11 | | Vampire Weekend Contra
Their s/t was one of my favorites of '08. If this is half as good as that, I'd be happy. |
12 | | The Dillinger Escape Plan Option Paralysis
This band can do no wrong. I don't care which way they take their sound, it's guaranteed awesomeness. |
13 | | Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza Danza III
This'll be extreme. Could we ask for anything more from these guys? |
14 | | The Ocean 2 ALBUMS!!!
One album would make any fan happy, but TWO?! |
15 | | Battles ???
Mirrored was an absolute masterpiece. I have no expectations for this only because I have no idea what
else they're capable of. All I can predict is some form of unusual greatness. |
