Best Albums Of Decade

The albums I've most enjoyed from this decade... [I've only chosen at most one from each artist] Honorable mention to Dream theater- Octavium which jsut missed out.
1Mastodon
Crack The Skye

This album is just plain awesome. I really didn't know how they were going to follow on from such good
albums as Leviathan and Blood Mountain, but despite a complete change of direction, mastodon have
pulled
off something special here. The technical guitars and complex song structures add a whole new
dimension
to the album.
2System Of A Down
Toxicity

Probably their best album, although if their debut was released this decade I may have had to think a
bit harder. This
album is made by Serj's vocals however, which is proved by side project scar's on broadway ( they're just
no
comparison to SOAD). His vocals range from screamnig/growling to melodic choruses and other noises
that don't sound
like they are being made by a man at all. Such a powerful album in terms of its lyrics as well, songs
carrying a true
meaning as well as hit singles 'Chop Suey' and 'Toxicity.' I need to see SOAD live!!!!
3Machine Head
The Blackening

What can I say about this album! It's a brutal riff-fest which must be witnessed live. Halo is just an epic
and the whole
album is filled with huge choruses and riffs. An honorable mention goes to 'Through the ashes of
empires' but it isn't quite
there. 'The Blackening' really does have everything you look for in a metal album.
4Metallica
Death magnetic

This album got me into into Metallica, and the terrible production aside this album really is better than
most people give it credit for.
Although not up with 'ride the lightening' or 'Master of puppets,' which is no mean feat, Metallica have
returned to form with this
one. 'The Judas Kiss' being one of the highlights as Metallic return to their roots.
5 NIN
With Teeth

This album has been played so many times on my ipod, and so it has to make my list. I don't know why
I like it so much, but it is so
catchy and has some amazing moments from an emotional Trent, just amazing.
6 Muse
Origins Of Symmetry

Definitely their best album to date, this album is truly spectacular. From the riff in 'plug in baby' to the
amazing vocals in 'micro cuts' this album
really caught my eye. The whole album is consistently good witha couple of standouts as well, such as
'hyper music'
7Killswitch Engage
As Daylight Dies

It was very hard to pick between albums as they are all great, if not a bit similar. My preference of
Howard Jones to Jesse may not be
the most consented view, however his vocals on the melodic parts are amazing and only he can pull
them off. I just love KE, they
don't take naything too seriously, whilst still producing incredibly catchy songs.
8Linkin Park
Hybrid Theory

The band that got me into metal. As simple as that, there songs are extremely catchy and the rap-
metal mix flows seamlessly
throughout.
9Dark Tranquillity
Fiction

I never understood why DT where always being overshadowed by In Flames and Soilwork, DT continue
too produce quality
'Gothenburg' melodic metal many years after their first. This album is exceptional, the vocals are harsh
and dark, however the
melodic parts are superb.
10Opeth
Blackwater Park

Such an amazing album. I was amazed the first time I heard this, and it does take some getting used
to. The transformation within a single
song is quite immense, and is definitely not to everyone's taste. You have to admire what has been
achieved here, however it is a dark
album and is not the easiest thing to listen to.
