| Favorite Albums Of 2009 (That I Actually Listened To)
So I haven't listened to nearly enough music in 2009 to make a "Best Of", but I wanted to try a list on this site so these are my favorite of the past year. | | 1 | | Japandroids Post-Nothing
Not giving a fuck never sounded sweeter, or catchier. Manages to take its weaknesses (simplicity of compositions, lack of virtuosity) and turn them into strengths, making this album the anthem for just letting it all go (in the good way). | | 2 | | Wild Beasts Two Dancers
What the id would sound like if it could reach falsetto and arpeggiate. "All The King's Men" is my top song of the year. | | 3 | | Phoenix Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
I did not want to like this album, but its undeniable. They make this look too easy. Fold it! No, fallin'! I want to buy a Cadillac now. | | 4 | | Fuck Buttons Tarot Sport
Out of the three major (in my eyes) electronic releases, this one is supreme. Mixing the experimentality of HEALTH with a dab of the hookiness of Neon Indian, Tarot Sport is more of a emotion simulator than a record. | | 5 | | Neon Indian Psychic Chasms
"Oh, he sounds just like MGMT/Washed Out/Gary Numan and he's just another member of the Pitchfork hype machine." Whine all you want, this man knows how to craft a pop song, plain and simple. Enough sticky melodies and bittersweet nostalgia to keep you coming back for more. I should've taken acid with this guy. | | 6 | | HEALTH Get Color
What hell sounds like on a bad day. Now with (a couple) hooks! BJ Miller, by the way, best drumming performance of the year. | | 7 | | Cymbals Eat Guitars Why There Are Mountains
Nostalgia, in all its forms, was a bit of a trend this year. Modest Mouse, Pavement, and many of the other bands I and so many others grew up with, are in the spirits of these guys. I feel entitled to their success. | | 8 | | Pissed Jeans King of Jeans
Poor Matt Korvette. His simplistic, depressed (and slightly sarcastic) musings on the problems that come with being a "normal dude" lend a little sensitivity to the rest of Pissed Jeans' hardcore attack. An attack which has never sounded better, by the way. | | 9 | | Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion
Just don't deny it, this record is brilliant. Along with the Fall Be Kind EP, 2009 will, in all likelihood, be remembered as the year of Animal Collective. | | 10 | | Baroness Blue Record
Bring it on, bitches. | |
