Guitar Hero: Van Halen... (Plus Van Halen ranked, suckas)

...sucks ass. For a band that had such an impact on rock and metal they really deserved better than this. For one, they not only have the rather untalented Wolfgang Van Halen on bass instead of Michael Anthony, they let the kid pick out a bunch of non-Van Halen songs for inclusion in the game that have very little or no relevance to the band's legacy. Also, albeit not quite as heinously, no songs from the Sammy Hagar or Gary Cherone eras of the band are included. The game itself brings nothing new to the table, having none of the features introduced in Guitar Hero 5, and it is a regression for the series that leaves Metallica's game looking down on it from a great height. Anywho, Van Halen ranked:
1Van Halen
1984

My favourite VH album, though many would disagree. I just think that it is one of the only albums in history where the band were obviously going for a more mainstream approach but lost none of the charm and charisma from their previous work. Best songs are 'Panama', 'Hot For Teacher' and 'Jump', but it's altogether awesomeness.
2Van Halen
Van Halen

Pretty much on par with 1984. Probably the greatest debut album of all time with the exception of Appetite For Destruction. All songs rule but the best of the best are 'Running With The Devil', 'Eruption', 'Atomic Punk', Ain't Talking About Love' and the awesome Kinks cover 'You Really Got Me'
3Van Halen
Van Halen II

Almost equally great followup to their debut, VH II was another instant and influential classic. Best tracks here are 'You're No Good', 'Dance The Night Away', 'Light Up The Sky' and 'Beautiful Girls'
4Van Halen
Fair Warning

One of my all-time favourites, every track is stellar but the best are 'Mean Street', 'Dirty Movies', 'Hear About It Later', 'Unchained' and 'Push Comes to Shove'
5Van Halen
Women and Children First

Damn, David Lee Roth-era Van Halen is pretty much the only era of the band worth listening to, they're almost all classics. Best songs 'And The Cradle Will Rock', 'Everybody Wants Some!!', 'Romeo Delight', Could This Be Magic' and 'In a Simple Rhyme'.
6Van Halen
5150

The first Van Hagar album is actually pretty decent if you can get past the fact that David Lee Roth isn't the singer anymore (it took me a while to get over that. Sad, I know). Some cool tracks are 'Good Enough', 'Why Can't This Be Love', 'Best of Both Worlds' and '5150'.
7Van Halen
Diver Down

If the David Lee Roth era ever had a throwaway album of sorts, it is this one. Not to say it's bad, but there's quite a bit more filler than on previous albums, with plenty of covers, as if they had forgotten to write their own songs or something. Best songs are 'Where Have All The Good Times Gone', 'Hang Em High', 'Secrets', 'Oh Pretty Woman', 'Little Guitars' and 'The Ful Bug'.
8Van Halen
OU812

Oh, you ate one too? Anyway, I was never a big fan of Sammy Hagar but this isn't all that bad. Favourite songs are 'Mine All Mine', 'Feels So Good' and 'Black and Blue'.
9Van Halen
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

F.U.C.K., while not a terrible album, really shows that they were running out of ideas, but there are some good songs like 'Poundcake', 'Man On a Mission' and 'Top Of The World'.
10Van Halen
Balance

Okay now they've really lost it. The worst and last album of the Sammy Hagar period, good songs include 'The Seventh Seal', Can't Stop Loving You' and 'Not Enough'. The cover is pretty crappy as well.
11Van Halen
Van Halen III

Ugh, Gary Cherone. Of the people they could have gotten to replace Hagar, Gary fucking Cherone. Perhaps not the worst album in the world but damn if I didn't know it was Van Halen you could not have convinced me that it was. I suppose 'Fire In The Hole' is an okay song...
