Inveigh 12.28.09	is that on Blu-Ray yet? haha, but you're right, no movie collection is complete without it. The problem is, I have over 100 standard DVDs and I can't bring myself to go out and pay $25 for a Blu-Ray of a movie I already own..

Steel: yeah, I'm entertained by Michael Bay, but I don't enjoy supporting him. oh damn, I know! I gotsta get me some more Michael Mann! Collateral, Heat, fuck, what else is there?

Inveigh 12.28.09	klap: yep, all blu-ray players that I've seen claim to be able to convert standard DVDs to HD-DVD quality. I haven't tried it out yet, but that's what the manuel says. cirq: duh.
klap 12.28.09	wow i did know that, i might actually invest in one. if that's true, why would anyone buy an expensive blu-ray movie when they can buy the cheaper dvd and convert it? let me know if it works that'd be awesome

Inveigh 12.28.09	well, HD-DVD isn't nearly the quality of blu-ray -- hence why HD-DVDs weren't around for very long after blu-ray came out. I've had HDTV for awhile now (ESPN in HD is stunning) and blu-ray looks even better. It hurts my eyes it's so crystal clear. I'll let ya know how it turns out -- perhaps I'll pop in A Very Sunny Christmas for the third time tonight and see how it looks haha.

As far as movies go, I don't know if this ended, but Best Buy had a box set of Mean Streets, Goodfellas, The Aviators, and The Departed for like $25. Also, can't go wrong with Donnie Darko, Brick, Gone Baby Gone, The Big Lebowski, Children of Men, City of God, Requiem for a Dream, Road to Perdition, Narc, and Adaptation. ::gasps for air::

theacademy 12.29.09	i am a blu ray enthusiast. i have found the following releases entirely necessary for the elevated/exclusive/hd content: 1. sunshine 2. watchmen: the ultimate cut 3. 300 (the version that comes in a book, not the standard blu ray release) 4. The fountain of the above, only the watchmen collection is particularly expensive (4 discs + digital copy). as for other movies, it is really unnecessary to get movies that arent effects-heavy on blu ray unless its cheaper to do so. for instance, donnie darko is a retarded rec, because it is intentionally shot in a grainy, darkness...but for me, it was 2 dollars cheaper on blu ray and included the directors cut...
Inveigh 12.29.09	Hah, between cheat and cirq you guys mentioned most of my favorite movies (i.e. Goodfellas, The Departed, Donnie Darko, Big Lebowski, Children of Men, Requiem for a Dream, Narc, Eternal Sunshine, Blood Diamond, American Psycho and Pineapple Express) but I've got those on regular DVD. Kill Bill, Gone Baby Gone, City of God, Mean Streats and Brick are now on my list though for sure. Thanks guys.

renegadestrings 12.29.09	everyone is going to tell you to get 5, but be warned, its hard to get into. all the other DEP albums clicked for me after a couple of listens and i love em still... but Calculating Infinity is still a bit of a conundrum
Prophet178 12.29.09	If you like NIN the Beside You In Time Blu-ray is ill, especially if you have a receiver capable of Dolby 5.1HD or DTS Master. I think Opeth's Roudhouse Tapes is coming out on Blu-Ray soon too, I fucking hope so. 5 is probably the best album here, next would be 2.

Nice call on Fight Club, I lost my old copy of that. renegadestrings: I just amazon'd Calculating Infinity, and I knew going into it that it would be less accessible than their other stuff. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get into it or not, but I'm gonna try -- although super mathcore is sometimes too much for me. Prophet: I'm not really into NIN, but I love me some Opeth. I didn't even think of music blu-rays, thanks for reminding me those exist!
Deviant. 12.29.09	My blu ray collection is a little sparse given the price of them (plus I really can't be bothered swapping all my dvd's for Blu Ray), but my collection is: Zodiac (Director's Cut) Black Hawk Down Hellboy 1+2 Dracula (Francis Ford Copolla version) Batman Begins The Dark Knight Full Metal Jacket As for Calculating Infinity, depends on the person. First couple of tracks I didn't think too much of it, but after about halfway through I was hooked

Deviant. 12.29.09	Yeah man, not a great deal added to the movie itself minus a few scenes here and there, plus a pretty cool blackout montage. Special features is freakin' extensive though. So The Fountain is good on Blu Ray? I heard Aronofsky wasn't thrilled with the dvd version. It's pretty dark in a lot of places.

Deviant. 12.29.09	Fincher has his own seperate track which is needed, you're right. You should be able to find it pretty easy, I just picked it up from the shop. I'll have to amazon The Fountain, haven't seen it on Blu Ray anywhere in NZ.

Deviant. 12.30.09	Dude, the movies awesome. It's fucked up, but it's awesome. I remember reading somewhere that critics hated it, but fans of the director loved it. Definitely worth a look.
