2009- The Year In Summary

My favorite albums of 2009
1Animal Collective
Merriweather Post Pavilion

Animal Collective nearly perfect their eclectic mix of pop, folk, psychedelic and electronica to create the album of the year. Music that, despite its complexities, seeks to conjure warm images of home and the souls that dwell within.
2The Antlers

This album explores dark themes- death, loss, delusion- and pits them against the will of the human spirit. Though sad and, at times, devastating, vocalist Peter Silberman maintains a tone of redemption and hope throughout that transcends the white hospital walls.
3Grizzly Bear

This album furthers the re-imagining of folk, blending beautiful harmonies and angular yet precise instrumentation into a near-masterpiece of modern music.
4Bill Callahan
Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle

Simply beautiful songwriting and lyrics make this an unforgettable listen.

A nostalgic, fast-paced album that seems to summarize the aches, joys, and confusion of youth in 8 quick bursts.
6No Age
Losing Feeling EP

Further evidence that No Age are maturing into a great band.
7 Kid Cudi
Man on the Moon: The End of the Day

A refreshing hip-hope album that focuses on introspection and the examination of a lonely child's growth.
8 mewithoutYou
Its All Crazy! Its All False! Its All a Dream! Its Alright

One of the musical groups that got me into indie reach the peak of their maturity and their musicianship. Despite a few missteps, compare the hope of this album to the despair of "A-B Life" and the you will see the enormous strides this group has taken.
9The Mountain Goats
The Life of the World to Come

Ambivalence Avenue

Some awesome Boards of Canada-esque tunes.
