Favorite Albums Of 2009
Calling this a "Best Of" list sounds pretentious. |
1 | | Coheed and Cambria Neverender DVD
As a huge Coheed & Cambria fan, words cannot express how happy I was when I first heard about Neverender. Playing each one of their concept albums straight through on four consecutive nights, Coheed & Cambria were allowing their fans to enjoy their favorite albums the way they were meant to be heard. I own the "Children of the Fence Edition" and could not be happier with the contents that are included. This is without the most comprehensive collection ever released by a contemporary artist. |
2 | | Various Artists (Indie) Dark Was The Night
What an amazing compilation album. I was shocked when I first saw the stellar lineup of artists that contributed to the record. There really isn't a bad track on either of the two discs. |
3 | | Silversun Pickups Swoon
Their sophomore record definitely picks up (no pun intended) where Carnavas left off as the band continues their indie-alternative/shoegaze quest. I enjoy pretty much all of the tracks on the album. |
4 | | Kid Cudi Man on the Moon: The End of Day
My favorite hip hop record this year, seeing the Cleveland rapper bringing something fresh to the table is a nice relief. |
5 | | Mastodon Crack the Skye
Mastodon delivered another phenomenal record this year. Nice to see that this band is making a very strong case for the legitimacy of metal music. |
6 | | Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion
Named after the local outdoor music venue, Animal Collective are always pushing the boundries and making tremendous music. |
7 | | Alice In Chains Black Gives Way to Blue
The triumphant return of this grunge band show that they can still make relevant music after the passing of former lead singer Layne Staley |
8 | | Porcupine Tree The Incident
I always expect great music from this band, and they deliver once more. |
9 | | John Mayer Battle Studies
Never was a fan of John Mayer. I liked some of his older stuff, but never delved into his music too much. However, his latest album was a really good listen. |
10 | | The Dead Weather Horehound
Another Jack White side project, this time featuring a member of Queens of the Stoneage, bassist of The Raconteurs, as well as the lead singer of The Kills. I loved this album the first time I listened to it. |
