Best Albums Of 2009
I think it's late enough in the year that I can actually put this up.
The Mars Volta
This album seems to be a nice distillation of what makes The Mars Volta
great while taking away some of the more extraneous elements. The lyrics
still make no sense, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Crack the Skye
This album seems like a natural evolution for Mastodon. It's a really epic
album that doesn't really sound too overdone. I really cannot wait to see
where this new direction takes them.
This is the album that really got me on the Baroness bandwagon.
The Mountain Goats
The Life of the World to Come
I think this recaptures some of the minimalist glory of John Darnielle's
This is the first of Rodriguez-Lopez's solo albums that really sounds like an
extension to his work in ATDI and The Mars Volta. Plus, he's actually a
pretty good vocalist.
Glitter and Doom Live
I have to admit, I have a bit of a bias towards this album because this is
the tour I saw Tom Waits on. It really captures how awesome his live show
Andrew Jackson Jihad
Hymn to The Immortal Wind
There really isn't much for me to say about this. It simply sounds beautiful.
Very epic and yet serene.
This album came pretty much out of the blue for me. It's very esoteric and
one of the best examples of modern, atmospheric avant-garde jazz. Plus,
Fun little sludge album.
The Dethalbum II
For being a joke band, Brendon Small has actually put together a hell of a
Merriweather Post Pavilion
Secret Chiefs 3
This album perfectly captures the art of Italian horror film score.
Axe To Fall
I think this album fizzles out towards the end, but when it's good, it kicks
insane amounts of ass.

The Flaming Lips-Embryonic, Bomb the Music Industry-Scrambles, Giant Squid-The Ichtyologist, Japandroids-Post-Nothing
yeah 1 is a really great album and 14 is absolutely fantastic.
3 is the album that got me OFF the Baroness band wagon.
2 is ok at times, but it gets old fast.
13,14,16, and 17 would all make my list.
Octahedron is great, Crack the Skye is meh, Xenophanes is fairly good, and Mandala is amazing. I actually agree with the Axe to Fall description.
the last song on ATF is the best track man
OOOOOOOOOH WRETCHED WORRRRRRLD.
I've finally listened to Wretched World, and it's pretty good.
