| Which Genre Should I Tackle Next?
So, i've been doing this thing where I pick two genres and familiarise myself with the discography of at least 5 key artists from it. So far i've worked through neofolk and IDM, now i've sort hit the end of that phase I need something new to investigate. I'm working through some black metal at the moment, and i'm a little hazy on what else I should be digging into. This is where you come in, try and help me decide. Suggest something. Is it worth spending that much time on? What bands are worth looking into? etc. etc. | | 1 | Post Rock | | 2 | Trip Hop | | 3 | Shoegaze | | 4 | Psychedelic Rock | | 5 | Punk/Hardcore | | 6 | Progressive Rock | | 7 | Jazz | | 8 | Krautrock | | 9 | Martial Industrial/Neoclassical | | 10 | Post Punk | |
Meatplow
11.28.09 | Some of these I more heavily familiar with than others. For example I have listened to very little post rock, what I have heard is exceptionally mundane but i'm curious nonetheless. | rasputin

Post-punk: Wire- Pink Flag
Shoegaze: Cocteau Twins- Treasure
Psycedelic Rock: Any Blue Oyster Cult record, although, some will disagree with me. They had some rather odd things to say.

11.28.09 | It's hard to answer your question...for me, I'd suggest trying to get into either Post Rock, Progressive, Shoegaze or Punk/Hardcore next...I just couldn't tell you which one specifically.
So here's what you do: Go out and buy the following albums--
Sigur Ros - '( )'
My Bloody Valentine - 'Loveless'
Refused - 'The Shape of Punk To Come'
Porcupine Tree - 'In Absentia' (for new prog) or Pink Floyd - 'Wish You Were Here' (for classic prog)...or both.
Listen to all of those, then choose which one seems the most promising and check back with us. | ChildOfHate
