ninjacat11
12.02.09 | That sounds about right, actually. I would put 3 in first place, though.
Last I remember, 4 has pretty much every song on 6, only spruced up. |

12.16.09 | blood mountain not only melted my face, but also melted my brain. |

12.16.09 | Mine's very similar:
Leviathan
Crack the Skye
Blood Mountain
Remission
Call of the Mastodon
Lifesblood |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.16.09 | Inveigh, that is probably where I stand on this. However, Remission does toggle back and forth for me with Blood Mountain. |
Inveigh
12.16.09 | ^agreed dude, I ALMOST put it above Blood Mountain. Very tough decision. It's really a mood thing (kinda like those ETID records we're talking about on that other thread) |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.16.09 | Yeah man. It depends if you just want to just thrash out 10O% OR 50% |
Inveigh
12.16.09 | hah, that's a great way of putting it dude |
Athom
12.16.09 | I'd say
Blood Mountain
Remission
Leviathan
Crack the Skye |
Inveigh
12.16.09 | I haven't heard too many people that would put Leviathan as low as 3rd for Mastodon albums.. interesting. Any particular reason you like Blood Mountain and Remission more? I'm not saying it's wrong or anything like that (opinions is opinions), I'm just curious as to what you liked more about those albums. |
Athom
12.16.09 | I like the lead work better on Blood Mountain and I like the riffs better on Remission. |
Inveigh
12.16.09 | wow, props for an extremely reasonable and concise response. Can't really argue about the leads and riffs being better on those two.. I just like the combination of the two (and the overall aesthetic/feel) better on Leviathan. It's also the first Mastodon record I bought. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.16.09 | Yeah, when I first heard Leviathan, I was astounded and instantly became my favorite. I do agree Remission is full of serious riffs, "Mother Puncher" being my favorite. And then, the leads on Blood Mountain being more lead friendly. However, I feel that front to back, the consistency of Leviathan, and their songwriting was the most solid. The tracks, "Hearts Alive," "Megalodon," and "Aqua Dementia" are just epic as fuck. |
Athom
12.16.09 | Leviathan is still a beastly album, i think i have it at a 4. The production on it irks me a bit, but that's it. The only Mastodon album that I'm not all that keen on is Crack The Skye, it has it's moments (Oblivion, Divinations, Last Barron), but the whole middle section just bores me. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.16.09 | The Czar is my favorite song off Crack the Skye. But the melodies and hooks on "Oblivion," "Divinations," and "The Last Baron" are great. I don't know, I really like this album a lot, but I definitely think they can do even better than this album. But you know, they were experimenting...and I really like it. |
Inveigh
12.16.09 | ^agreed completely on Crack the Skye (the middle section being boring that is). I probably should go back and give Blood Mountain another listen, it's been quite awhile. |
