I think emo is the most ill defined genre in music, it's really vague. IMO here are a few classic albums I believe to be "emo".

11.19.09 | @ masochist: I didn't really think that either of the two ever had the popularity of rest of the list so I left them off. I was considering having them on list. I'm largely unfamiliar with HWM, so I could not have picked a good song from them anyway. High wire Escape artist, or last year's nest were my choices for boysetsfire.
@lobotomie: You said you are going to follow the topic, and yet clearly you didn't bother reading any of the other comments and/or the list's description. Anyway, Embrace, Rites of Spring and Fugazi are some of my favorite bands, excellent stuff. Jawbreaker is great as well, although I haven't listened to Dear You. I've heard nothing but good things about it though.

@Strikey: And that's exactly what I was getting at. We all know there are much better examples of this type of music, but the average, "unenlightened", if you will, kid would call this music, mistakenly, "Emo"
