11.14.09 | I think DSOTM is really overrated and not even in the top 3 best Floyd albums |
kitsch
11.14.09 | ok computer isnt the dark side of the moon of the 90s
mainly because ok computer knocks the shit out of dark side
if you dont understand why ok is such a masterpiece i really cant help you other than to say listen again and again and again
o and the concept for ok really isnt that important to liking the album |
AnotherBrick
11.14.09 | i mean ya its a damn good album but it didnt leave the impression on me that dark side did |
Ire
11.14.09 | I think Dark side of the moon is better along with Wish you were here. |

11.14.09 | dark side is cool if youre my dad |

11.14.09 | just kidding, my music taste isnt stupid like that
i can appreesh that album but its only a 4/5 |
AnotherBrick
11.14.09 | ya i'm the opposite of you. DSOTM is a 5/5 for me and ok computer is a 4/5 lol |
EVedder27
11.14.09 | Ok is excellent but its no dark side |
theacademy
11.14.09 | i think its hilarious to see people favoring ok computer because dsotm is 'overrated'
i am actually silenced by the retardedness of these replies.
dark side is a masterpiece. and mostly for the reason anotherbrick gave...the impression it leaves..."ok computer" is pretty much the "Silver Side Up" of the 90's |
SeaAnemone
11.14.09 | ^explain yourself, academy |
AnotherBrick
11.14.09 | i agree...after one listen from dark side i instantly wanted to listen to it again and again but from what i've heard from most people with ok computer is that they didnt like it at all the first listen but after many listens it becomes one of their favorite albums. to me you dont have to force yourself to like a masterpiece |
theacademy
11.14.09 | @ seaanemone which part |
theacademy
11.14.09 | also, @anotherbrick...i've had to argue this: "to me you dont have to force yourself to like a masterpiece" so many times...i agree with you 100% |
SeaAnemone
11.14.09 | just because something takes more than one listen to appreciate doesn't mean it's bad and you're "forcing yourself." It simply means it's more substantial (in this case, at least) and there's too much to simply glaze over with one listen and be like "oh that was cool." |
kitsch
11.14.09 | i instantly loved ok computer
theacademy i officially hate you for comparing radiohead to nickelback, thats retarted even from a completely objective standpoint in terms of influence

kitsch
11.14.09 | ive never had to get into an album via multiple listens i pretty much know the first time i hear something if its good or not
i may have to listen to it a few times to determine a rating but thats different |
hipnotoad
11.14.09 | At least for me it didn't take repeated listens to enjoy Ok. I fell in love with Ok the first time I heard it. However, it was after repeated listens that I uncovered more, and started to like it more. Basically at first, it was merely a 3.5-4/5 at first. After months and months of listening to the album in it's entirety, it quickly jumped to a 4.5-5. As for the DSotM comparison, I don't really see it. In all honesty I enjoy both, but they're a tad too different to really compare against each other, at least in my opinion. |

11.14.09 | don't get me wrong tho, DSOTM makes OKC look like nickelback |
SeaAnemone
11.14.09 | ok I wasn't sure... I knew you liked Limp Bizcuit and shit so yea...

11.14.09 | to all the people who liked ok computer after your first listen was that your first radiohead album? or were you already a fan? |
Accountant
11.15.09 | OK Computer > Dark Side of the Moon. Both are 5/5 and classic albums, though.
For me, Dark Side is like listening to a journey. OK Computer takes you on the journey.
/pretentious waffle..
But either way, i'd say OK Computer is the better album. I realise though that Pink Floyd has (at the moment) had a wider scope and influence, and DSOTM would get more votes overall. But in 50 years, I would like to think people recognise OK Computer as the overall more enjoyable record.
Also, OK Computer takes a while to get into for a lot of people, true, but it NEVER gets old. |
hipnotoad
11.15.09 | "to all the people who liked ok computer after your first listen was that your first radiohead album? or were you already a fan?"
Not going to lie, I wasn't really too into Radiohead, at the time (on a side note I first listened to it when it came out) the only song I had heard from Radiohead was (you guessed it) Creep. Though after listening to Ok, I quickly went back and listened to The Bends, which is another excellent album. Pretty much from then on I became a Radiohead fan :>. |
AnotherBrick
11.15.09 | ya idk though...i've been listening to DSOTM for several years now and i keep uncovering new things about it...for ok computer i dont really see what else their is to be uncovered |
theacademy
11.15.09 | ^ its a scam. stop listening to it. |
qwe3
11.15.09 | why do you need to compare it to something else for it to be great?
it's a fucking superb rock record even without the concept, and the concept is awesome too even though it's more a collection of related ideas.
it's also better than dark side. |
AnotherBrick
11.15.09 | i'm not comparing it to be great. lots of places have already made the comparisons so i was seeing what you guys thought of it. |

11.15.09 | I've only heard Ok computer a couple of times.

11.15.09 | dark side of the moon is kinda like the "you had to be there" pink floyd album, because at the time prog rock wasn't really mainstream and it catapulted the genre to popularity, so for a lot of older folk it was the first thing of that caliber that they had ever heard.
but Wish you Were Here is superior to it in every way. |
theacademy
11.15.09 | @anotherbrick yeah but u rated more than 2 albums |

11.15.09 | Also, my list of favourite bands is outdated by about 3 years now. I just can't be fucked changing it. |
AnotherBrick
11.15.09 | haha wow good point, didnt realize thats all he has rated.
and @pie i totally agree that wish you were here is better but like you said DSOTM was the first big prog album of its time which is why lots say it is their best |
dankeyes11
11.15.09 | Some of my favorite albums I enjoyed right away. Some I only enjoyed after a long period of time. Never, though, have I had to "force" myself to like an album. Nobody should do that. With DSOTM, I liked it right away. With OK Computer, it felt a little like peeling back layers. There are plenty of albums that require some increased exposure to enjoy. Those are the ones that you listen to and find yourself initially unimpressed, but gravitate back to in time, for whatever reason.
If you feel you've adequately listened to OK Computer and don't understand the hype, that's fine - you shouldn't have to force yourself to like it. But, don't set your opinion in stone (just in case you find yourself gravitating back to it in a month or so). |
Titan50
11.15.09 | OK COmputer was my first taste of Radiohead. Hooked on first full listen
DSOTM is epic, but is only about Floyd's 4th best |

11.15.09 | Wait, never mind. You gave Relationship of Command and Homogenic both a 2.5, your opinion is shit |

11.15.09 | anotherbrick if you think axe to fall merits a 1 youre objectively a retard.

11.15.09 | I can see the comparison. Both albums are amazing in their own right. The way Dark Side flows together is incredible, but at the same time, OK Computer is an amazing cohesive set of individual songs. I love them both, but Dark Side is a lot more of an actual concept album. |
Motiv3
11.16.09 | 1. Dark side is overrated itself, wish you were here is the album of the 70's
2. Yes Ok Computer is overrated too but its still an awesome album. |
robertsona
11.16.09 | dark side is a lil better than ok computer |
qwe3
11.16.09 | "ya and sorry qwe that i dont get a boner anytime anyone mentions converge"
its not that at all. you like a lot of stuff i dont like, but i still realise that there's artistic merit in it.
to rate it a 1 it would have to be the worst music you've ever heard and if that's the case you probably haven't listened to much music dude. |
AnotherBrick
11.16.09 | personally i hate converge, that isnt my type of music at all so if i cant stand any of the music on that album then i would rate it a one. i appreciate what they do for that style of music but to me it just comes off as "awful" lol but i could understand if you got pissed if i went around flaming on it but i dont do that. if someone brings it up then ill say what i feel about it |
qwe3
11.16.09 | if you can recognize what it did for the genre then i just don't think you can rate it a 1. i mean i hate "The Wall" by pink floyd but i know it's not a 1. im prob making a big deal of this idk |
theacademy
11.16.09 | yeah i think the important thing is that altho he would rate it a 1, he didn't rate it so...non-issue |
qwe3
11.16.09 | "he would rate it a 1"
that was the issue |
theacademy
11.16.09 | yeah but like, I would rate the most fantastic, awe-inspiring, influential country album a 1 because I don't respect the genre. but I didn't. because I don't listen to country music.
thats not really well-said but it's my point sorta...i donno.. |
qwe3
11.16.09 | nah i got your point and i agree. js if you dont listen to that kind of music it's kinda pointless to even talk about what you'd rate it, because it wouldn't address the music at hand, it'd be like rating the genre as a whole. if you get me. i just woke up so i dunno if im being coherent |
AnotherBrick
11.16.09 | i mean ya i've heard parts of jane doe and absolutely hated what i heard and thought that if i would listen to it all the way through that i would pry rate it a 1 but i also hate it when people who arent into a specific genre of music listen to an album that they know they will hate and then rate it a 1 just to prove a point, which is why i've refrained from rating any converge |
theacademy
11.16.09 | ya ure good bro |

03.07.18 | Nice forum and thread. OKC grows on you the more you listen to it, I have to admit. And it's better than anything Coldplay has ever done (as CM himself admits).
But DSOTM was made by one of the most influential bands of all time, while Radiohead really doesn't measure up. Plus I was turned off a little by some of the juvenile lyrics in OKC. It would have sounded much better to me if it was sung in Greek, or something like that. |
