11.13.09 | haha description for 9 is too true. thanks for the credit on 5 :)
mmm i think if you chuck on dave brubeck - time out like ramses said, and also black saint and the sinner lady from charles mingus, its pretty much the most comprehensive jazz list ive seen on sputnik. good job dude. |
JimmyTwoTimes
11.13.09 | Damn fine list, sir. Needs sum Charlae Parkahhhh |
EasternLight
11.13.09 | getting like, all these |
thebhoy
11.13.09 | Yes, I've been meaning to get some Brubek... and what the hell I just realized I don't have Black Saint and the Sinner Lady like anywhere on my computer. Consider this fixed. |
Zip
11.13.09 | Needs moar Dizzy Gillespie |
Douglas
11.13.09 | I approve of this list, cept there is no Charlie Parker : ( |
shindip
11.13.09 | no Bitches Brew? |
Douglas
11.13.09 | 2 Miles albums is basically right, while Bitches Brew is my fav, I'd say In A Silent Way and Kind of Blue are more accessible |
liledman
11.13.09 | probably just depends what you want to represent with davis though - bitches brew for the progression, even though mahavishnu orchestra are in the list reppin the fusion, or sketches of spain for the latin sounds. |
Oswig328
11.13.09 | Have you heard Oscar Peterson Trio's album We Get Requests? It is absolutely the tits. |
Douglas
11.13.09 | Also check out:
Michel Camilo - One More Once
More latin but awesome still
|
Athom
11.13.09 | I'll comment back on this with stuff to add tomorrow. |
thebhoy
11.13.09 | anything by OP is great and this list is by no means definitive. I need to get some Charlie Parker and I haven't heard enough of Michel Camilo, but he is awesome. Sketches of Spain is almost classical if it weren't for Davis' soloing, I thought about putting Bitches Brew on, but it's like what liledman says. |
Piglet
11.13.09 | oh dea i only have 1, 2 and 9 |

11.14.09 | also, big band kinda sucks. |
thebhoy
11.14.09 | Nimmons N' Nine are the only traditional big band on my list. Jaco Pastorious' big band is fusion and Dave Holland's Big Band on What Goes Around is used so awesome. You really have to hear it, especially because you love Conference of the Birds.
Also, I will be referring to your list to round out my jazz collection. A lot of that stuff is stuff I've been meaning to get, so cheers. |
thebhoy
11.14.09 | and what no big band doesn't suck. |
Athom
11.14.09 | eh, i never really could get into it. i'm more of a avant-garde/post-bop person. if you get Astigmatic be warned that while the music is friggin amazing, the instrument tones are terrible. it's worth it though. |
thebhoy
11.14.09 | hmmm, I'm a sucker for good tone, but I can see past bad tone if the music is good. And yeah, you definitely need to check out the fusion big band stuff, and definitely Holland's What Goes Around, avant-garde big band. Mind blowing. |
liledman
11.15.09 | trade Wes Montgomery - The Incrdible Jazz Guitar of...
for
George Benson - The George Benson Collection
and youve got a deal redsky |
GenusHomo
01.14.12 | I agree you need Charlie Parker
I recommend more Duke Ellington and more Coltrane
Thelonious Monk
Great list though for sure! |
