Satellite
11.10.09 | Start with both 2 and 3, then go from there. Avoid 1. |
IanDavila
11.10.09 | ^ Yes!!! |
TomServo
11.10.09 | start with illusion of safety or artist in the ambulance and enjoy their evolution from there |
Tulannical
11.10.09 | i started with vheissu. start w/ either that or illusion imo |
TomServo
11.10.09 | haha , yes satellite beat me to it and i came back to say avoid identity crisis |
IanDavila
11.10.09 | maybe beggars could be a good start, is pretty accecible and a great listen, but is fact that 2 and 3 are the best |
IanDavila
11.10.09 | sorry for the typos |
Prophet178
11.10.09 | 7 if you like indie/alternative, 2 if you like post-hardcore. |
TheSpirit
11.10.09 | I'll probably go for the more Post-Hardcore stuff, but i still wanna try it all. Does 7 still contain hardcore traits or have they all vanished by that time? |
Tulannical
11.10.09 | no it is not fact that 2 and 3 are best actually. 4 is my favorite. |
Jethro42
11.10.09 | The problem with Thrice is that if you read all the opinions you'll be even more confused than you were.
I'd start with Vheissu. More athmospheric with a prog touch in it. TIOS and TAITA are more like hardcore. |
Satellite
11.10.09 | I don't think that 2 and 3 are necessarily their best releases, just the right albums to start with. |
March_Of_Sand
11.10.09 | Start with either 3 or 4. |
Masochist
11.10.09 | Start with 'The Artist in the Ambulance.' That's the record that most people know, the one that quite a few people became fans with. It's got arguably their most well-known songs, and it's a good indication of their...ahh, "signature sound," if there could ever be a thing for Thrice.
From their, move to either 'The Illusion of Safety' or 'Vheissu'. Then, if you so choose, move on to 'The Alchemy Index' (all volumes), and after that, 'Identity Crisis' and 'Beggars'.
Just my advice. |
mareep
11.10.09 | Illusions their best and most accessible along with Artist so get them. then move on to vheissu, then the indexes, then beggars.
identity crisis only has a few good songs on it but its still worth a listen to see where they came from. Ultra Blue is a fucking good song. |
ckypro3
11.10.09 | i started with 5, but i probably should have gone with 3. |
Prophet178
11.10.09 | Yeah Beggars doesn't have any traces of post hardcore, there isn't a scream to be heard on the entire album.
2 or 3 would be your best bet if you're into post-hardcore. |
bungy
11.10.09 | start with a different band |
Jethro42
11.10.09 | LOL
You're kinda funny today Bungy |
Romulus
11.10.09 | I started with 7 and worked backwards which was pretty counterproductive, so don't do that. I do like 7 the best though. |
EVedder27
11.10.09 | If youre more into post hardcore 3, and if youre into alt rock than 7. I started with 4 and ended up getting 5 and 7. |
klap
11.10.09 | i always thought the alchemy indices were the most accessible, particularly 3 + 4 |
YouAreMySilence
11.10.09 | 5 & 6 are the best imo. |
Mordecai.
11.10.09 | "Illusions their best and most accessible along with Artist so get them. then move on to vheissu, then the indexes, then beggars.
identity crisis only has a few good songs on it but its still worth a listen to see where they came from. Ultra Blue is a fucking good song."
Why type when i can just copy and paste this fact^^^ |
sXeJigglypuff
11.10.09 | Identity Crisis fucking rules. |
FreePizzaDay
11.10.09 | Agreed. Identity Crisis owns. "Ultra Blue" is good, but maybe you forgot about "Phoenix Ignition", "To What End", and "Identity Crisis." Oh, and one of my favorite songs in their entire discography, "Under Par."
You all are smoking rocks. Listen to 1,2 and 3. 4 is pretty awesome. 5-7 are all optional. |
DiceMan
11.10.09 | I started at 5 and 6, then got 7, then got their recording from the House of Blues. Still have to check out everything else though. Apparently I started at the worst possible place though. |
mareep
11.10.09 | Nah Ultra Blue and T&C are the best on identity crisis mang |
BrahTheSunGod
11.10.09 | Just go chronologically. Seriously. It's the only way to really understand the massive progression and expansion that this band has undergone. |
johnunderstood
11.10.09 | I love all of thrice's work and I cant say that one album is better than another so I can't tell you what is the best cd, so I would just say to start at the beginning and listen to ALL of them |
InTheShallows
11.10.09 | Well the easiest thing is just to go chronologically, so do that. Then you save yourself the trouble of weeding through all the opinions here. Just skip the first one though, it's not that good. |
FreePizzaDay
11.10.09 | Yeah man, just go chronologically and ignore everyone's opinion. Oh, but here's my opinion.
*Rolls eyes* |
InTheShallows
11.10.09 | Hey cut a chick some slack ;) haha
And anyway technically he's still going chronologically if he skips the first one. I mean the one thing basically EVERYONE agrees on is that the first is their worst. |
AnotherBrick
11.10.09 | only one i could get into was 5 so thats where my vote goes lol |
Mordecai.
11.10.09 | that lol at the end of your comment wasn't very necessary |
Masochist
11.10.09 | ^^^ Coincidentally, it took me a LONG time to hear that song...but the first songs I did hear by the band were from the same album ("Stare At The Sun" and "Under A Killing Moon"). But I absolutely agree with you about it.
LATE NIGHT, BRAKE SLACK, HERE THE TIRES SQUEAL

Aids
11.10.09 | Roll a dice or something (make Beggars 1, forget Identity Crisis). Listen to all of them eventually. If you don't like them all you're probably insane.
Personally, I like Vheissu best and Illusion of Safety least, but they're all awesome. |
mareep
11.10.09 | agreed |
Inveigh
11.10.09 | Chronological order is probably the way to go, if you're really into post-hardcore you'll probably like Identity Crisis, and it's super-cheap on amazon.com. For me, it's a toss up between 2, 3 and 4 as far as my favorite record, but they really haven't released a sub-par album. |
Satellite
11.10.09 | Anyone who claims to think IC is good for anything but scene points is retarded. |
mareep
11.10.09 | no i think claiming to like something for scene points is retarded.
IC is good |
Cesar
11.10.09 | 4 or 2 |
Inveigh
11.10.09 | what mareep said. |
TheSpirit
11.10.09 | Thanks everyone... I picked up their second two albums last night and are about to give them a spin |
InTheShallows
11.10.09 | ^ good choices, they're the best to start with. hope you enjoy! |
TheSpirit
11.11.09 | Thanks!! |
bungy
11.11.09 | wow sputnik to the rescue look at all this advice |
theacademy
11.11.09 | @masochist - it's "Brakes lock" (but it does sound exactly like "brake slack")
also, LOL at all the bro-love in these comments. |
Tyler.
02.18.19 | artist in the ambulance |
JohnnyoftheWell
02.18.19 | Start with Artist then go Vheissu. Those two are the core of their sound, the others are all great to explore after |
JohnnyoftheWell
02.18.19 | Oh ffs. Ten fucking years. |
TheSpirit
02.20.19 | Tyler. how..... did you even FIND THIS lol |
Allergist
02.20.19 | HhhzhHhHhahahahahaha wow so funny xD |
Source
02.20.19 | So where did you end up starting |
TheSpirit
02.20.19 | i think i went chronologically, but i dont think it stuck b/c i can't tell you the last time i even thought about this band |
Source
02.20.19 | Haha. You should give illusion and vheissu another spin |
Uzumaki
02.20.19 | Artist In The Ambulance would be my vote, but I agree with others, the best way to appreciate a band is to work through their discography chronologically. |
Source
02.20.19 | The thread got necrobumped Uzumaki |
Uzumaki
02.20.19 | Hot damn. Didn’t even notice the date. |
