The Big Five Oh

My 50th list, and to celebrate, here are 8 current digs. (8, as we are all well aware, goes into the Big Five Oh 6.25 times. And that's all the math I care to know. Plus, it looks like the infinity symbol got crunk and tipped onto its side.)
1Rosetta
Wake/Lift

An oldie, but a real goodie. These guys have the rare distinction in post-metal of making distorted, abrasive melodies sound absolutely gorgeous without sacrificing a shred of intensity.
2Sigur Ros
( )

No explanation necessary, really.
3Baroness
Blue Record

Not quite as strong as the Red Album, in my opinion, but definitely a worthy release from one of the most promising sludgy/gritty/occasionally psychedelic metal acts out there. And the throaty yet clean vocals are amazing.
4 New Moon
Original Soundtrack

A preposterously good collection of songs for such a subpar film series. Once you get past the album artwork, there's some great stuff here (Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Sea Wolf, and -- surprisingly -- OK Go all stand out in particular).
5Imogen Heap
Ellipse

Generally more introspective than her past releases, which is fine by me. Make no mistake, there's no lack of catchy hooks here -- it's just that there's seems to be a stronger focus on atmosphere than in the past (especially evident in the instrumental versions).
6Rodrigo y Gabriela
11:11

Not terribly different from their self-titled, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There's still enough progression for them to avoid cries of complacency and laziness.
7 Boomtown
Season 1

Extremely well done, as far as procedural crime shows are concerned. The fact that it was canceled so early is...wait for it...criminal.
8 David Small
Stitches

Got this on a whim, and I'm really glad that I did. A vivid, almost uncomfortably personal graphic novel depicting the lack of communication (both figurative and literal) in the author's family as he grew up. I generally dislike memoirs, just because everything is so subjective, but this manages to channel that subjectivity into a brilliant (and brilliantly-rendered) story.
