10.14.09 | Not in any real order, except the first three. |
joplinpicasso
10.14.09 | Ok, ok, you got some good stuff here, but you should drop the other stuff and scale through good 90s hip hop and some of the better rap artists of the 2000s: Immortal Technique, DOOM, Madvillian |
MentalityOfA
10.14.09 | FOtC FTW. |
illmitch

Emim
10.14.09 | Yeah, rap/hip-hop makes up probably about 7-10% of my music library. Really not that into it, but I'm starting to get my appreciation back for it, so thanks. |
Emim
10.14.09 | You're going to have to be more specific foxxxy. |

10.14.09 | God I love 7 & 8. |

10.14.09 | That's not very nice, what ever happened to love and peace for all?
I agree with illmitch about Three 6 Mafia, pretty good stuff right there. |
Carnifex
10.14.09 | No Public Enemy..? Wahhhh |
Emim
10.14.09 | Bring the Noise came REAL close to being here, but I only have the Anthrax version, I think. |
Emim
10.14.09 | Yeah, I got to #10 and realized I should have made it for 11, Eminem would have occupied that slot. Probably w/ Stan or Lose Yourself. |
Emim
10.14.09 | Yes, I got the joke, just elaborating on it. |
BrahTheSunGod
10.14.09 | Check out Atmosphere, or P.O.S.
Both of them are great, and I *don't* listen to rap. Ever. Saw POS's lead singer guest scream on a song for The Bled when they played in Minneapolis |

Yeah, I've been meaning to check out P.O.S. sounded interesting. And Celph Titled seems to ge a lot of praise, I'll look into it, thanks. |

10.15.09 | Just for information's sake, what exactly is the difference?
Also, lol @ illmitch |
Ragez
10.15.09 | Gucci Gucci, that dude has some material i am honestly not hesitant towards. Not much of a compliment, but still |
illmitch
10.15.09 | there isnt a difference between hip hop and rap btw. usually when people say there is, the difference is that hip hop is the stuff in the genre they like, and rap is the stuff they don't.
frankly gucci mane is pretty underrated. dude isn't the best rapper, but he has some hilarious lines and some verses that contain legit multisyllabic rhymes. check out his verse in Yung Joc - Posted at the Store and the first verse in his song Photo Shoot. |
Emim
10.15.09 | Yeah, there really isn't a difference between the two, I just want Inveigh to explain why he thinks there is (there I go caring about other's opinions again, damnit...). |
Inveigh
10.15.09 | There's definitely a difference. The artists you listed such as 2Pac, DMX, B.I.G. etc. are rap. Artists like Brand Nubian, KRS One, Atmosphere, Murs, Company Flow etc. are hip-hop.
Of course, it's subjective, just like every musical genre. But saying there's no difference between hip-hop and rap is like saying there's no difference between metal and rock. |
Inveigh
10.15.09 | also, lyrical content makes them different. Rap is technically a sub-genre of hip-hop; with lyrics that revolve more around gangs, violence, money, extravagance and street life. Hip-hop (while not necessarily avoiding those subjects) is concerned more with urban culture, personal conflict and often is more socially/politically conscious.
Of course, an emcee or group can be both (like Wu-Tang Clan). |
Emim
10.16.09 | This is how I've always seen it:
"Hip Hop is the original culture that is the foundation for its numerous expressions: DJing, MCing, B-boying, Writing(Graff), etc.
Rap is the act of rhyming to a beat."
But yeah, it's all subjective. Thanks for explaining and not just calling me a faggot or something.

BSX
10.16.09 | Rap - Lies = Hip Hop |
BrahTheSunGod
10.16.09 | DEFINITELY get P.O.S.
