25-track Mix Cd- Punk
Stole this idea off pogostick1, essentially 25 punk songs (the amount you can fit on a blank CD) that I would put on a compilation. |
1 | Sunny Day Real Estate Seven
Cracking opener; powerful, emotional, quick-paced, great song from an underrated band. From the days when 'emo' actually meant something |
2 | Propagandhi Night Letters
I love this song. It turns up the aggression and has some killer guitar work as well as being stupidly intelligent. |
3 | Streetlight Manifesto Point/Counterpoint
This is nothing short of an anthem; if there's one song that typifies everything good about 3rd-wave ska, it's this. |
4 | Suicide Bid Wind Ya Batty
Continuing with the ska theme, this is ridiculously upbeat and dancable. |
5 | DOA World War 3
Anthemic punk from the band that invented hardcore as we remember it; this is a must-hear for any punk fan. |
6 | The Clash Straight to Hell
Sampled in MIA's 'Paper Planes', this is a punk curveball and sounds even more powerful in its original form. Beautiful. |
7 | The Pogues If I Should Fall From Grace With God
Another British band but one that's seriously underrated as part of the punk movement in the 80s. This is a feel-good Irish chanty. |
8 | The Dead Milkmen Peter Bazooka
This is a really funny song from the hilariously irreverant Dead Milkmen; draw your own conclusions. |
9 | Bouncing Souls The Gold Song
Straight-up anthemic punk rock from some of the genre's present-day workhorses. |
10 | Anti-Nowhere League Streets of London
This is a classic from the Tunbridge Wells band that inspired acts such as Metallica. Snotty and dirty and British and awesome. |
11 | Gorilla Biscuits Sitting Around at Home
Two in one; US hardcore stalwarts covering The Buzzcocks, who are seriously worth your attention. |
12 | Agent Orange Misirlou
Surf-punk funsters with an awesome Dick Dales cover that's really nice and accessible. |
13 | NOFX Stickin' In My Eye
So difficult to choose any one song from this band (who need no introduction) but this one's as good as any! The amateur punk needs to listen to this band. |
14 | Social Distortion It Wasn't a Pretty Picture
From 'Mommy's Little Monster', this epitomises Social D's gritty street troubador style. |
15 | Refused New Noise
Perhaps a predictable choice of song, but it's an anthem guaranteed to hook you in to this iconic band's sound. |
16 | Frank Turner Thatcher Fucked The Kids
Witty folk-punk rant from Mr Turner, formerly of Million Dead. One of the current torch-bearers of punk rock. |
17 | Screeching Weasel Stupid Over You
This is the song that got me into SW. Bubblegum, but it's how pop-punk should be done, five star. |
18 | Turbonegro Zillion Dollar Sadist
This band are overlooked in the punk scene, except in Europe. This is music to get wasted to, no more no less. |
19 | Adolescents Kids of the Black Hole
This anthem is truly a scene classic and definitely the stand-out track on their self-titled. |
20 | The Ghost of a Thousand Left for Dead
Excellent, rollicking, crunchy 21st century hardcore punk. |
21 | Black Flag Slip It In
This was the EP where Black Flag adopted some hard rock stylings, and all the better for it. Get past the sex noises and this is a thriller. |
22 | Dead Kennedys Take This Job and Shove It
Warp-speed, the birthings of polipunk. |
23 | Jawbreaker Bad Scene, Everyone's Fault
This band needs to be listened to. Incidentally, this beautiful little nugget accurately describes the party I was at last night. |
24 | The Gaslight Anthem We're Getting a Divorce, You Keep the Diner
It's alright man, I'm only bleeding man. This band are so full of soul and musicianship but I won't make the obvious comparison. |
25 | Leftover Crack Gay Rude Boys
Something of a piss-take of Operation Ivy but I love this song. This anarcho-ska-punk-metal band are underrated as hell. |
