My Favourite Albums (a Work In Progress)

I used to have all my favorites neatly laid out in my head, but with my tastes changing so much it's hard to keep track of. Here's the current list.
1Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon

I never really appreciated this for what it us until recently, and that is an entirely cohesive, ridiculously stunning work of art, and a crowning achievement in the field of rock. Although 'rock' is too simple, as many pieces defy classification. Put plainly, it MUST be listened to as a single piece, and when experienced in the way it was meant to be, it is a flowing, grandiose statement on the meaning of life and everyone's problems. Both comforting and terrifying at the same time.
2Bob Dylan
Highway 61 Revisited

This album got me through the corn detasseling season of 2007. Truly changed the way I look at music and the various mediums it can use to express it's message. Turned me on to an incredibly wide range of music and expanded my musical horizons like nothing else ever has. Truly poetry in motion.
3 Bright Eyes
I'm Wide Awake, it's Morning

Made me the druggy, folk-hipster I am today. A set of gorgeous melodies penned with Conor Oberst's tender, incredibly poetic lyrics. Makes 40 minutes fly by like nothing for me. However, the biggest praise I can give it is that it turned me into a very serious musician.
4 Modest Mouse
Every Studio Album

I simply cannot decide which release I like best from these guys. If Isaac Brock asked for my soul I'd give it to him, no questions asked. A genius at the height of his craft. My favourite album differs every week, as all of them simply have unforgettable songs, songs I can come back to time and time again and never get bored. Anything from TLCW live is just face-melting, in the most indie way possible.
5Nirvana
MTV Unplugged in New York

My songwriting bible, specifically the Meat Puppets section. A big 'fuck you' from Kurt Cobain to the world for doubting his songwriting skills. Without 'Oh, Me' to jam to with a friend of mine, my life would be much more incomplete.
