Thats a start. |
Relinquished
10.02.09 | Try Enslaved - Vertebrae |
YouAreMySilence
10.02.09 | Wolves In The Throne Room got me into black metal,
but that more atmospheric and some find that it's boring. |
TricksterGRex
10.02.09 | Wolves are pretty accessible, Two Hunters would probably be a good place to start, but there's way more krieg stuff out there |
Relinquished
10.02.09 | Yeah, but to get into krieg you need start from the bottom. |
TricksterGRex
10.02.09 | anything off talesovdryden has balls big enough for satan |
myhigherpie
10.02.09 | try some panopticon, enslaved, shining, sigh, Windir, and Ulver for some of the more unconventional black metal bands. |
Wizard
10.02.09 | Faggots are forgetting Emperor. |
Crysis
10.02.09 | The thing which really makes black metal what it is, at least to me, and the easiest way to understand it is to understand it's atmosphere. Black metal is heavily atmospheric and and in order to understand the genre you have to understand what kinds of atmosphere the band is going for. For early recommendations I'd say:
Wolves In The Throne Room (if you have a decent attention span)
Drudkh (if you're willing to try something a little harder to get into)
Enslaved's album "Vertebrae" is extremely accessible
Janvs album "Vega" isn't very raw or harsh
"The Womb Of Primordial Nature" by October falls is a great album if you want a combination of acoustic folk and black metal
Anything by Shining (namely V- Halmstad) is experimental/avant-garde in style
"Bergtatt" by Ulver is a fairly easy listen, has a lot of clean singing and is definitely a definitive black metal album
Hope this helps you get into the genre!

10.02.09 | It's not the heaviness that bothers me. I used to listen to plenty of metal and I still like a lot of it. Black metal just always pissed me off and sounded stupid. But now I think I'm open enough to try it. Also, what about Ulver? I've heard a little of them and they were intriguing. |
myhigherpie
10.02.09 | also, even though its completely unrelated to black metal, Ulver's newer stuff is by far even better than their black metal stuff so if you like electronica you should check it out. |
Lions
10.02.09 | oh, nevermind I didn't see that myhigherpie already mentioned ulver. Either way, where should I start with them? |
TricksterGRex
10.02.09 | Bergtatt for black metal, but their newer electronic stuff is really way better than their black metal era stuff |
ThyCrossAwaits
10.02.09 | Crysis. |
plutosatanclubhouse
10.02.09 | pretty much just get Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Filosofem by Burzum and if you don't like those don't even bother with black metal tbh |

10.02.09 | "Bergtatt for black metal, but their newer electronic stuff is really way better than their black metal era stuff"
I think we're the only ones on this site who agree with this. |
Lions
10.02.09 | Alright, Crysis, most of the stuff you said seemed up my alley. I'm currently dling ulver, october falls, wolves, and shining. Let's see how this goes. I'll tell you what I think. I'll also probably check out the electronic ulver stuff too because I do like some electronica. |
illmitch
10.02.09 | any album by Drudkh, but particularly Forgotten Legends |
Crysis
10.02.09 | Alright man, eager to hear what you think. |
XulOnerom
10.02.09 | I see you like G!YBE. Why don't you try Agalloch's "The Mantle". It is not strictly black metal, but think of it as post rock with black metal influences. It would be a good gateway before getting into the full-on black metal bands |

10.02.09 | all you had to do is go to all the lists and hit ctrl+f and type in black metal to look at all the lists that have to do with black metal. i swear theres like thousands of the same lists a day on this site now. its turned me into a grumpy old man |
Mordecai.
10.02.09 | I hated b/m too until i heard Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hungar 3 years ago. Rapage. |
Wizard
10.02.09 | I didn't enjoy black metal until I came to this site. Also, the Jonas Brothers had quite the influence on me as well. |
