Favorite Yes Tracks Pt. 1
I don't remember how or why I got into Yes, but I've grown to love them over the years. Here are a handful of my favorite tracks. This is part one. There are still 6 albums to cover. I forgot how big this band's catalog was when I chose to highlight 15 tracks... I'll do part 2 another day. |
| 1 | Yes Homeworld (The Ladder)
Album: The Ladder. I love pretty much everything about this song. Though nine and a half minutes long, it covers a lot of musical ground and contains some really great grooves. |
| 2 | Changes
Album: 90125. Maybe a strange pick from this album over the ever-popular "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", but Jon's vocals really shine on this track. |
| 3 | And You And I
Album: Close To The Edge. Yes at their finest perhaps. This song just makes me feel good. Good lyrics, great harmonies, 10 minutes of magic. |
| 4 | In The Tower
Album: Drama. Not the most stand-out track ever, but that's what I like about it. The lyrics and layered organs tell a great story. |
| 5 | We Have Heaven
Album: Fragile. A short but fantastic little interlude. |
| 6 | Mood For A Day
Album: Fragile. A great acoustic guitar tune by Steve Howe. |
| 7 | Roundabout
Album: Fragile. Alright, I'm not going to be silly and ignore this track. It's genius and should be on any "Favorite Yes Tracks" list. |
| 8 | Turn Of The Century
Album: Going For The One. Jon Anderson has a great way of telling a story on the more stripped down tracks such as this. Nearly 8 minutes, but very chill. Pretty much the opposite of the last track in terms of energy. |
| 9 | It Will Be A Good Day (The River)
Album: The Ladder. This is one of my top 3 favorite Yes tracks actually. One of the best feel-good songs ever written. |
| 10 | Give Love Each Day
Album: Magnification. Kind of a given I guess, for those of us who like the sappier side of Yes. Almost too polished but still great. |
| 11 | From The Balcony
Album: Open Your Eyes. Jon's vocals have always bugged me a bit on this song, but I love the song itself musically and lyrically. |
| 12 | To Be Over
Album: Relayer. Whole album is good, hard to pick just one, but this relatively mellow track amid the prog chaos of Relayer is a subtle gem. |
| 13 | We Agree
Album: Magnification. One of my all time favorites. |
| 14 | The Revealing Science of God / Dance Of The Dawn
Album: Tales From Topographic Oceans. Kind of like 12, it's hard to take a track from this album out of the context of the whole. I'm choosing this one because the lyrics are superb. Musically I'd just refer to the whole album. |
| 15 | Holy Lamb (Song For Harmonic Convergence)
Album: Big Generator. One of my favorite album closers of any band. Anthem for the world, in Jon's borderline incoherent language. |
