Metallica: From Best To Worst

Arguably the best and most influental band of it's genre, Metallica defined what it is to be in a metal band and created some of the best thrash of all time.
1Metallica
Master of Puppets

Surprised? Prolly not...this is typical. But who can blame me? This is the defining thrash album. Setting the stage for all of it's followers. It's only contenders being Slayer and Megadeth themselves. This is brutality at it's finest! This record came long before it's time and blew everyone and all the hair metal bullsh*t away.
2Metallica
...And Justice for All

It was hard for me too choose between my top two choices because it is so difficult for me to decide...but regardless of it's flaws I feel Justice has to be the strongest of Tallica's work for me. Here we find Hetfield at his prime on vocals. Delivering the strongest vocal work of their career and without a doubt the best lyrics. The guitar sound here is astounding and if you want proof just listen to the first minute and thirty seconds of "Blackened". The only beef I had with this album is that the other instruments seem to overpower Newsted's bass. This was probably due to the band's ridicule of Newsted after Burton's death.
3 Metallica
The Black Album

This is where i'll prolly be flamed but so be it! This was the album where the band took their music into a far more radio-friendly place. The sound was still heavy, but it was no longer thrash or metal for that matter. But the sound that people say Metallica sold out with was still a quality sound. This has some of the band's biggest hits: "Enter Sandman", "Nothing Else Matters", "Unforgiven", and "Sad But True".
4Metallica
Ride the Lightning

...and ride it they did! This is when tallica finally became recognized by the public for their sound. Ride the Lightning is one of the most straightforward and in-your-face records you'll ever hear. Whether its the powerful "For Whom the Bell Tolls" to the fast paced "Creeping Death" to the just down-right epic "Call of Ktulu" - which btw is their best instrumental they ever wrote imo, this album will tear your head off.
5Metallica
Death Magnetic

The comeback of our decade! This is the album fans have been waiting over 15 years for...the tracks while not perfect here are solid and surprisingly this band still has the same passion and brutality they had 20 years ago! For proof check out "All Nightmare Long" or "My Apocalypse".
6 Metallica
Garage Inc.

Some great covers here! Seger's "Turn the Page" is great as well as the Misfit's covers and King Diamond.
7 Metallica
Kill 'Em All

Why so low? Well I just didnt care much for some of the stuff on here. It has some really great tracks like "Seek and Destroy" (of course) and "No Remorse" but alot of my problem is Hetfield's voice here. He sounds like a kid. 18-19 years old the guy just doesnt have the ferocity here yet. The guitars work well as well as Lars' drum-work but i'm waiting on Hetfield to mature a bit. Cliff does excellent work on bass here as well...R.I.P. man, you sounded so crisp on Kill Em All...
8Metallica
Load

Pretty shitty. Sounds alot like they tried to do southern rock with a heavy twang too it. There are a few decent tracks like "King Nothing" and "Cure" but mostly this is a huge letdown from giants like these guys.
9Metallica
St. Anger

Nuff said. Most dissapointing heavy metal record ever made. Everything all just sounds like sh*t here...but i'm sure you already know this.
10Metallica
Reload

For me this was even worse than St. Anger. It's ONLY good song was "Fuel". "The Unforgiven II" is worth listening too and having in your library to go with 1 and 3 but...its really not much different than the first one. Sounds like if Nickelback covered The Unforgiven and changed some of the lyrics...which is illegal and would prolly get them thrown in jail...good!
