City Of Evil Ranked

yeeeeaaaa nigguh
1Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

The Wicked End - Quite easily one of A7X's best songs. A very strongly-written, 7-minute epic in which
each of the band members give some of their best performances. The orchestral bridge also manages to
be
somewhat creepy and atmospheric with very minimal, if any cheese at all. An excellent feat for a band
like
A7X. 10/10
2Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Trashed and Scattered - This is a pretty well-written song that strays from the verse-chorus formula.
Though it may seem a bit disjointed at first, after multiple listens it falls into place as one of the
album's
strongest tracks. There are a number of excellent guitar riffs and leads which when paired with
impressive
drumming from The Rev, give this track a very aggressive feel. The lyrics may be pretty bad in some
places
(i.e. verse/bridge) but in my opinion this song features the best chorus A7X has ever written. The outro
is also a nice, melodic finish to an otherwise gritty song. A bit cheesy, but I can't help but love this
song.
10/10
3Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Sidewinder - Another one of the album's second-half gems. One of the most interesting songs the
band
has ever written. Highlights of the song include the crunchy guitar riffs, melodic leads, Shadow's vocals
in
the chorus, and obviously the duel flamenco-styled guitar solo that serves as the song's outro.
Excellent.
9.5/10
4Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Burn it Down - The shortest song on the album at a modest 4:58. Though this was initially one of my
least
favorites on the album, recent listens have changed my mind. This is a pretty straightforward song,
with a
pretty creative chorus and an excellent bridge. 8.5/10
5Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Strength of the World - The longest song A7X has ever written at 9:14, gives off a surprisingly epic feel
throughout. The orchestral beginning does a fantastic job of setting the stage for the main riff, even if
it
sounds a bit synthetic. Despite the long length, the song never really drags. However, there are a few
less
than spectacular moments, including the chorus which features Shadows at his most nasal and
annoying.
However, the instrumentation makes up for it. The harmonized guitar leads that come before the later
verses/bridge and the guitar solo easily rank among Syn and Zacky's most impressive moments. 8/10
6Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Blinded in Chains - The verses are pretty bad in this song, but the chorus acts as the song's saving
grace.
Extremely catchy and easy to sing a long to, the song almost succeeds at being a fist-pumping political
anthem, albeit with terrible lyrics. Still a very good song. 7.5/10
7Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Bat Country - IIIIEEEEIIIEEEIIIIIEEEE. Not one of the more impressive instrumental performances, but
this song succeeds at what it is: a fun rock/metal single. The slow part is a bit unnecessary, but the
guitar
solo slays. A very fun listen if you like A7X. 7/10
8Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

M.I.A. - This was my favorite song when I first heard the album 4-5 years ago. However, of late I have
began to notice a few flaws. While the chorus and guitar solos are excellent, this song pretty blatantly
rips
off Iron Maiden. The stop-time guitar riffs in the first verse and political lyrics immediately bring "The
Trooper" to mind, which wouldn't be too bad if it was well-executed but it just comes off as forced and
cheesy. The quiet part at the end also features Shadow's going way beyond his range, in a cringe-
worthy
finale to a song with an impressive instrumental break in the middle-end. This song could have been
amazing, but falls short. 6.7462394/10
9Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Seize the Day - A somewhat decent power-ballad, but as many have pointed out the Guns 'N' Roses
imitating in the song is pretty nauseating. The solo is well executed and emotional, and the bridge
following features some of Shadow's better vocals, but ultimately the song is nothing special at all.
Decent
at best. 6/10
10Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Beast and the Harlot - One of my favorite songs upon first hearing the album, but I can hardly listen to
it
all the way through anymore. The instrumentation is good enough, but not the band's best, and the
song
just comes off as big, dumb, heavy metal. Shadows is at his worst once again, except it's through the
whole song. Oh and the high-pitched guitar riff in the chorus is just plain annoying. 5/10
11Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Betrayed - This easily could have been left off the album and it wouldn't have made any difference. It's
a
nice enough tribute to Dimebag, but I get the feeling that it was written just to be written. There's little
passion put in this song, especially in the atrocious first half. The uplifting guitar lead/solo at 3:52 is
easily
the best part about the song, but seeing as it takes up about 1/14 the song's total run time, it isn't
enough to save this song from being a very sloppy tribute. 5/10
