08.18.09 | Between the Buried and Me - Colors

The Computer
08.18.09 | Ayreon - The Human Equation |
demon of surveillance
08.18.09 | Symphony X (neo-classical prog metal) - V: New Mythology Suite, The Divine Wings of Tragedy (one of my favorite prog bands)
Queensryche (prog metal) - Operation: Mindcrime (pretty good, but there's better)
Enslaved (prog black metal) - Isa (haven't heard much of them but my progger friends like them)
Gojira (prog death metal) - The Way of All Flesh (really good, but the vocals might take some getting used to)
Iced Earth or Sonata Arctica (both power metal) - any albums (more power metal than prog metal, but my progger friends and I like both)
Mastodon (prog metal/"sludge" metal) - Crack the Skye (really good, their latest album is the msot progressive)
Devin Townsend (prog metal) - Ziltoid the Omniscient (only album by him I have heard, but it is amazing)
Unexpect (avant-garde prog metal) - In A Flesh Aquarium (too hard to describe this band. they combine black metal, death metal, progressive metal, melodic heavy metal, European Classical music, opera, medieval music, jazz, electro, ambient, noise, gypsy music, and circus music.) |

08.18.09 | go with either
Devin Townsend-Ocean Machine (best) or
The Devin Townsend Band-Synchestra (prob his most proggy) |
rotterdog
08.18.09 | There is none better than Operation: Mindcrime. |
AngelofDeath
08.18.09 | This would have been easy since I love all those bands but pretty much any band I could think to name has been mentioned already, most notably Cynic, Camel, Rush, Symphony X, Mastodon, and Unexpect. Enslaved is some good brutal metal with a healthy dose of Pink Floyd worship. You should dig it. Oh, check out Atheist. It's what Rush would sound like if they were an old-school death metal band. |
Baphomet
08.18.09 | I second BTBAM's Colors. Plus I don't see Protest the Hero here so go with any of their albums (They're mathcore, but progressive nontheless). Also:
The Human Abstract - Nocturne
In Mourning - Shrouded Divine (Progressive-ish Death Metal)
Augury - Fragmentary Evidence |
Seek and Destroy
08.18.09 | Listen to Camel! |
PaperTigers
08.18.09 | Some good bands mentioned already. I'll second the Oceansize and Fair to Midland recs. Both are fairly unique progressive bands that don't really have a typical "prog" sound.
I'd also recommend Spock's Beard since you like Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and Yes. They have the proggy tendencies that some people find cheesy, but that probably won't bother you if you listen to Dream Theater. Snow is probably the best album to start with.
And if you're looking for a heavier progressive band, then I'd recommend Precambrian by The Ocean. |

08.18.09 | Camel, King Crimson, Coheed and Cambria, Cynic. |
Masochist
08.18.09 | I see the Fair To Midland and Queensryche ('Operation: Mindcrime'), and raise:
Sleep Parade - 'Things Can Always Change' |
lostforwords
08.18.09 | Fates Warning-anything after Awaken The Guardian.
Watchtower- Both albums
Sieges Even- A sense of Change, The Art of NAvigating By the stars
Pain Of Salvation, check their "Remedy Lane" album.
More than anything check out Psychotic Waltz, any album would do,definately Into the Everflow.
For heavier stuff check Voivod and Coroner, any album by the latter (except maybe R.I.P.) |
