I didn't like it either, it was way too heavy handed |

08.08.09 | the buddha, the godhead, resides quite as comfortably in the ciruits of a digital computer or the gears of a cycle transmission than as he does at the top of a mountain or in the pedals of a flower. |

08.08.09 | really fuckin nice list

08.08.09 | I get a headache everytime I listen to full Hella records. Boggles my mind too much haha. |
rasputin
08.08.09 | props for reading sartre. if you like his thought and style definitely read some camus, and then probably some heidegger, jaspers and the best of the best, nietzsche. |
NotMrBlonde
08.08.09 | Yeah, I can see it being painful to listen to. But I rather dig it, can't listen to it when I'm tired though then it gives me headaches. I learned from that mistake this morning. |
NotMrBlonde
08.08.09 | Yeah, I read The Plague and The Stranger by Camus.
I own Beyond Good and Evil, Twilight of the Idols and The Antichrist.
I'll look into Heidegger and Jaspers though, thanks. |
rasputin
08.08.09 | heidegger and jaspers are somewhat different than the french guys, they're more rooted in kierkegaard and nietzsche whereas the french existential movement was largely seperate. so if you enjoy nietzsche, you'll definitely take something from it. |

08.08.09 | 4 is brilliant.

08.08.09 | read the stranger recently and i digged it
just got a collection of some sartre short stories, and got about halfway through the wall and had to stop cause it was too dense, will continue in the morning |
rasputin
08.08.09 | is the collection called the wall as well? if so, i have that one too. and did you mean the short story the wall itself was dense? give it another shot, it's far more effective in one hit. really good story, and the others which i've read closely are good too.
also zach have you read his play No Exit? |
iarescientists
08.08.09 | yeah that's the collection i have, i think i might just be fried cause i had some minor food poisioning earlier that forced me to leave work early so i'll definitely try again later
and no this is my first experience with sartre |
rasputin
08.08.09 | ah fair enough, yeah it's always good to be fresh when reading sartre or whatever.
well i'd recommend no exit for sure, it was my first primary reading of his (i had only read secondary literature prior) and it's really a pinnacle of his thought imo, although i haven't read most of his novels yet. it's really easy to get through as well, so see if you can find a copy. |

08.08.09 | Not my favorite Rand; she's too preachy. The Fountainhead is great if you take the right things from it and then dismiss some of her bullshit, but Atlas Shrugged seemed like too much. If you liked that Chuck Palahniuk, read Invisible Monsters by him; it's crazy. And with Plato I'd suggest reading Apology by him and rasputin mentioned Kierkegaard but he didn't tell you to read him so I'm telling you. Also, read some Alan Moore because he's golden. And House Of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Also, great list. |
