Converting My Friend

My friend is a big fan of music, especially classic rock. However, he will not listen to metal in any form, which is a mighty piss-off. Although he listens to some pretty good old music, some of the new stuff he enjoys is absolute garbage. Here is my plan to make him get into more hard stuff.
1Nirvana
In Utero

Certainly not metal, but quite heavy, with plenty of distortion. Many songs are catchy, and the lyrics are
interesting. Overall, this is a good listen, and a great starting point.
2Alice In Chains
Dirt

This album advances more into metal territory, combining many of the high points of In Utero with
more
powerful riffs, and more metal solos and instrumentation.
3System Of A Down
Mezmerize

The catchiest SOAD album, this manages to be very easy to get into, and shows great interplay between
heavy and slow musical styles. Many of the songs are quirky and interesting, and are quite appealing to
anybody, metalhead or not.
4Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden

The debut from one of the greatest metal bands, this is straightforward metal with several hard rock
touches. The vocals are likeable, and the music is heavy, without going all out intense. 'Phantom Of The
Opera' and 'Charlotte The Harlot' will probably be surefire hits with my buddy.
5Iron Maiden
Powerslave

A true metal classic, this is similar to Iron Maiden's debut, but with Bruce Dickinson's mighty wail. When
I
first heard this album, I was blown away, and I hope my friend will be as well.
6Metallica
Master Of Puppets

A milestone of thrash metal, this speedy, powerful album would be the next logical step following
Powerslave. The riffs are fast and powerful, and the vocals are harsher than those found on most Iron
Maiden albums.
7Megadeth
Rust In Peace

Heavier, thrashier, and more epic than previous albums on this list, Rust In Peace displays some of the
greatest talents in metal doing what they do best. Dave Mustaine's vocals may be slightly annoying, but
they will help him enjoy power metal vocalists more.
8Mastodon
Blood Mountain

A brutal, aggressive album from modern metal masters. Although this is not Mastodon's best, the harsh
vocals will help him explore the deepest, darkest depths of the metal universe.
9Opeth
Blackwater Park

The harsh vocals found here will be difficult for my friend to enjoy, but the progressive elements and
clean
sections will definitely help him pull through and learn to love this
10Protest The Hero
Kezia

A bizarre progressive metal masterpiece, the vocals and intense music will be the final step of
converting
my friend into a metal enthusiast.
