New(ish) albums and a scribbling of thoughts. | 1 | | Tiny Vipers Life On Earth
Beautifully mellow folk by Jesy Fortino, Life On Earth is a lesson in the world of abstract, slow burning melancholy. It's a stunning album, if not a draining listen. | 2 | | There Will Be Fireworks There Will Be Fireworks
Fairly typical, hope-filled post-rock, except the singer has a Scottish accent, which I could listen to all day because Scottish accents are fucking cool. | 3 | | RX Bandits Mandala
The Bandits throw away their horns and come up with their best record of their career. Blistering songs with some great songwriting to match. Only problem is that's its not altogether memorable. | 4 | | Sarah Blasko As Day Follows Night
Blasko is still a one-woman powerhouse, even if her laid back, jazzy style here is a far cry from the intensity of her earlier records. A great mix of emotion and quirky instrumental meandering. | 5 | | Lisa Mitchell Wonder
Cutest record of the year. Mitchell's brand of fokly pop is effortlessly absorbing and it's probably the most intriguing record any ex-Idol contestant has ever written. | 6 | | Towers Full Circle
Jared said it, these guys make some sick sounding hardcore with a rarely seen sonic palette that manages to be inventive and interesting at the same time. | 7 | | Set Your Goals This Will Be The Death Of Us
This is sort of the album that Set You Goals HAD to make, they've finally got around to blending their pop-punk and their hardcore in a way that's actually vaguely exciting. Nothing new here, but they're still damn good at what they do. | 8 | | Behemoth Evangelion
Feels like the first proper metal album I've listened to all year. Behemoth still know how to throw their aural evil across the room with fine force, even if this is no Demigod. Love that album art too. | 9 | | Delorean Ayrton Senna EP
There's been a ridiculous amount of hype behind this, but dammit it's worth it. Delorean make wonderfully textured, feel-good indie dance that'll make any summer party go off. Think Passion Pit but way earthier. | 10 | | Thrice Beggars
Who'd have thought Thrice would go from playing some of the finest and most aggressive post-hardcore around to becoming a groove machine of alt-rockers? I mean, The Great Exchange is Radiohead all over again. Dayum. | |

07.29.09 | It's the 29th. | Kiran
07.29.09 | I've been meaning to get the new Rx Bandits but in my pursuit of it I've ended up with Florence and the Machine, Rufus Wainwright, So Many Dynamos and Discovery, all of which aren't the new Rx Bandits album :( They're all really good distractions though | jingledeath
07.30.09 | Need a few of these, especially 5. 8 rules and 10 was a bit disappointing. |
