Best Of 09
Best album's i've heard all year, 1-12 albums that came out this year,
12-24 albums that I heard for the first time this year |
| 1 | | Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavillion
It's been said a million times but this record is fantastic, fuck anyone who
says this is "hipster bullshit" |
| 2 | | Dan Deacon Bromst
I honestly prefer Spiderman of the Rings to this but this still ownsauce. |
| 3 | | Isis Wavering Radiant
It's mediocre for an Isis record but a mediocre Isis record is still better then
95% of the music being produced today |
| 4 | | Mastodon Crack the Skye
I'm sure this list is already getting derivative but this album owns, don't
believe the naysayers. |
| 5 | | Anaal Nathrakh In the Constellation of the Black Widow
Haven't given this a full proper listen yet but from what i've heard, this is
bloody fantastic |
| 6 | | Various Artists Nigeria 70 - The Definitive Story of 1970's Funky Lagos
Easily one of the best compilation records i've heard in a long time, if you
have any interest in world music you NEED this. |
| 7 | | Busdriver Jhelli Beam
Probably his most forgettable record to date but his rhymes are still as odd
and confounding as always. |
| 8 | | dälek Gutter Tactics
You guys weren't entirely digging this but I still believe that they can do
doom rap like no one else......well except DOOM himself, but that's not
really what I meant. |
| 9 | | DatA The Skywriter
Not the most memorable record but one of the funnest of the year. |
| 10 | | Discovery LP
I was pleasantly surprised by this, it's not perfect but it's far better then
the steaming pile of shit I was expecting. |
| 11 | | DOOM Born Like This
Maybe not his definitive record but a solid release nonetheless. |
| 12 | | The Field Yesterday & Today
Like a lot of the records posted previously, not as good as previous
releases but still great. |
| 13 | | Macho Man Randy Savage Be A Man
Easily one of the all time greats. |
| 14 | | Madvillain Madvillainy
It took me awhile to get into DOOM but this record sealed the deal,
arguably one of the most well produced hip-hop albums in recent memory. |
| 15 | | MF DOOM Mm...Food
If Madvillainy got me into DOOM, Mm...Food solidified that fanfare. |
| 16 | | Michael Jackson Off the Wall
Like a lot of you when the king of pop died, I decided to give all of his old
albums a listen and although you may not agree with me, Off the Wall is
quite possibly his best......next to Thriller and Bad of course. |
| 17 | | Mogwai Mogwai Young Team
Although I haven't connected to this emotionally as much as I hoped, this is
still a memorable record. |
| 18 | | Nintendo Smashing...LIVE!
I'm a nerd, I know :( |
| 19 | | No Age Nouns
Another artist I wasn't into until I gave it another listen. |
| 20 | | Nurse With Wound Homotopy to Marie
This record is fucked up in every way imaginable and that's why it's so
intriguing, not so enjoyable but well worth a listen. |
| 21 | | Pelican Australasia
I actually like this more then anything they've put out this point, I haven't
checked out City of Echoes yet but based on the reception, I doubt I will. |
| 22 | | Portishead Dummy |
| 23 | | Sunn O))) Black One
aka the soundtrack to my nightmares |
| 24 | | Swervedriver Mezcal Head |
