Top 5 Most Overrated Guitarists

This is my list of my choice for the top 5 most overrated guitarists. Remember, this is just my opinion, so don't get your panies in a bunch!
1Kirk Hammet

"What?! Kirk Hammet is a god!" Yea, yea, yea. Settle down. First, ask yourself, what exactly makes Kirk Hammet's guitar playing so original and unique? Please don't tell me you have never heard the pentatonic scale used in Rock music before? Oh, he's fast?! Well, can he stand up to the likes of John Petrucci or Jeff Loomis? There is simply nothing that makes Kirk Hammet's guitar playing better than any other wannabe Metal guitarist. He is the most tasteless and unoriginal guitarist I have ever heard. Why does he get so much credit, though? Simple answer: He replaced Dave Mustaine in the most commercially successful Metal band to date. Too bad he's a mediocre lead guitarist.
2Herman Li

If Herman Li spent more time trying to write actual good riffs and leads instead of trying to emulate video game sounds and create some of the most ridiculously fast songs I have ever heard, then he would probably be a very good player. However, he is not. In fact, he can't even half play his own material live, which is pretty sad in my book. He will not be remembered for his playing and neither for his terrible band unless he learns to write GOOD music.
3Synester Gates

All the time when I ask people who their favorite guitarist is, I usually hear the name Synester Gates come up. Believe me, the dude is not a terrible guitarist; as a matter of fact, he is a virtuoso compared to all the other mainstream guitarists. However, when picked up and dropped over into the Metal scene where A7X claim to reside in, Syn Gates is no more than a pathetic wannabe guitarist copying the greats that he learned from. There is nothing truly original about his playing. Throw in a couple of arpeggio's there, insert a fast alternate-picked run here and you've got Syn's patented guitar style, which is an absolute ripoff of what just about every other mediocre Metal guitarist does. While they are impressive skills, if the solo sucks, then it just flat out sucks.
4Angus Young

I have never been impressed at all with Angus Young's guitar playing. When pitted against many of the other guitar greats of his time such as the likes of Tony Iommi and David Gilmour, his playing is mediocre and repetitive at best. Not that he was a bad guitarist, he was just doing nothing special at all.
5Rusty Cooley

Some of you reading this (If any) might be asking "who the hell is Rusty Cooley?", but this is mostly aimed to the shredheads out there who hail this dude as a god. Rusty Cooley is an instrumental shred guitarist known amongst Metalheads for his work in Outworld. While Rusty's playing ability and skill is absolutely phenomenal, when you look at his songwriting, it's nothing more than a wankfest of the worst proportions. I respect the guy and his skills, but he is a terrible songwriter. Why? Mainly because most all of his songs consist of the same recycled sweep arpeggio's and speed picking being played over and over again. It becomes boring and absolutely ridiculous after a short listen and Rusty comes off as nothing more than a show off.
