| My Musical Journey With Sputnik
So before I discovered Sputnik, I listened to the worst music that I could possibly find. Any band that had a catchy song on MTV or Fuse, I listened to. But after mxtabs got shut down, I checked out this site that they had been aliases with or something, which lead me here. After poking around, I had one of the biggest personal revelations of my life: I realized my music sucked. Here are some albums that Sputnik introduced me to that really shaped my taste as it is today. | | 1 | | Coheed and Cambria In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
I was actually introduced to this band by "music" channels I used to watch, so it was pretty much the main band that helped me develop a good taste. This band introduced me to progressive rock. Which then introduced me to... | | 2 | | The Mars Volta De-Loused in the Comatorium
When I first bought this album, I cant even count up how many times I played it. After doing some thorough research of the band, I looked up some of the bands that they came from. Which (of course) lead me to... | | 3 | | At the Drive-In Relationship of Command
Once I discovered this album, I went through a big hardcore/punk/metal phase. I eventually began poking around my older brother's shitty music collection, and found this... | | 4 | | Between The Buried and Me Colors
I dont really know how I found my way from ROC to this, but it was still pretty awesome. After some more digging through my brother's cds, I found... | | 5 | | Tool Lateralus
This list is probably all made of stuff that we have all heard before. We have all heard this. A friend reccomended me some more experimental stuff that was supposed to bear resemblance to this, but really sounded nothing like it. But among it was... | | 6 | | Radiohead In Rainbows
Oh god, what this album turned me into. I felt a need for more good alternative, and from more poking around the site, I found my way to this... | | 7 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
After hearing this album, I was launched into my epic and ever continuing Indie phase. Eventually I tried to look through Indie's roots, and dug up this album... | | 8 | | Sonic Youth Daydream Nation
When I first heard this, I didnt really like it much at all. It sat at the bottom of my music folder, and tucked away in my iTunes library for god knows how long. Until "Hey Joni" came up on a shuffle. Epic riffage. Along the line a friend gave me this album to listen to... | | 9 | | The National Boxer
I have some pretty epic ADD when it comes to listen to albums. One of my friends shoves one of their cds going "OMG THIS R TEH SO GOODZORZ", but as much as I want to listen to it, I get distracted and listen an album that managed to get my attention. Thats what happened with this. But I eventually got around to hearing it and it was one of the best albums that i have ever heard. Possibly some of my favorite songs ever are on this album. And this eventually lead me to... | | 10 | | Pavement Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
A few days ago my neighbor let me borrow the live and deluxe or duxe or whatever version of "Slanted and Enchanted". Because of my ADDness, I couldnt really take it at the moment. I looked for something that maybe had a bit better production, and found this. And now I can only imagine where this is going to carry me. | |

05.28.09 | this comment will change your life.
Get the album Bee Thousand by the band Guided By Voices. it's similar to Pavement in many ways (lo-fi indie). give the album a shot. it will definitely take a couple listens to click, but stick through with it. amazing album you will definitely dig | Yotimi
05.28.09 | GBV is great, I second that. Also, if you haven't given in to the hype of Bon Iver yet, look up their Letterman performance of "Skinny Love" on youtube. | AmnesiacR
