scyther 05.25.09	Well yeah, dancing sober is widely regarded as a fun activity. There are clubs that cater to individuals under the drinking age and they are fun simply because of the social gathering aspect, which is really the whole point of all clubs. These days the alcohol does make it a different atmosphere definitely but I don't think its imperative to keep the club running. Booze really just makes people who suck at dancing think they can and makes people who suck at sex think they don't.

Minus The Flair 05.25.09	"If you opened a nightclub that specialized in Grindcore or Indie or even Pop-punk you'd make thousands each week." there's a metal nightclub in my hometown which is basically a laughing stock. they make a bit of money but thats usually just due to lots of people drinking while laughing at the headbangers and air guitarists, a good way to start the night. gets pretty good after 12 though, when you're trashed enough to dance and shred with metalheads.
gaslightanthem 05.25.09	no just no clubs should do dance/hip hop/popular music creates the best overall atmosphere for the majority. i dont mind the occasional indie/metal/alternative nights but they aren't as good and don't draw anywhere near the same amount of people. i go to clubs to dance and meet hot girls not to admire the technicality or originality of the music

A lot of people on this thread are complaining that clubs only play a certain type of music, etc.. Where is everyone from? In Chicago, it's pretty much common knowledge that if you don't want faux hawks, techno and a general douche atmosphere, you don't go to the traditional "club." There are sports bars, pubs, hip-hop bars, metal bars (Exit, fuck yes, blood all over the walls and shit), biker bars, dive bars, raves, indie warehouse parties, etc.. Yeah, I hate clubs, which is why I don't go to them...
