| Groove Analysis: Fortress
Avid listeners of PTH's Fortress album will realize that it isn't really an album to "headbang" to, given all the odd time signatures. However, i have noticed that many of the riffs in the songs have this particular groove that kinda makes your head nod and bob, if ya know what i mean. Therefore, i analyzed every track from Fortress and picked the grooviest riff from each. | | 1 | Bloodmeat
riff at 0:27-0:46. This is pretty much the verse riff and it appears another time in the song that also reaks of groove. I am aware that before 0:27, guitar 1 does it by itself, but the groove is really brought out when all instruments join in. i would also like to note that 3:31 to the end is quite headbangable. | | 2 | The Dissentience
The bit at 0:18 occurs many times in the song and it describes groove perfectly. it subconsciously makes the listener bob their head. | | 3 | Bone Marrow
Your Reasonat first i thought it would be difficult to find a groove in this song but i was wrong. The entire part from 1:18-1:37 is great and so is the bit from 2:00-2:12. Many might think the latter part is a almost headbangable breakdown, but this ain't metalcore. The last groovy part occurs from 3:16-3:44. I mean, bass gets highlighted here, pure grooviness. | | 4 | Sequoia Throne
From 1:00-1:24 | | 5 | Palms Read
0:41-0:46, 1:06-1:18, 1:35-1:45 (the timing may be weird here but keep grooving with the cymbal), 4:04-4:24 (the first part is more headbangable, while the second part is more groovy), 4:46-end. | | 6 | Limb from Limb
Definitely at 1:45-2:03, and the grooviest riff on the whole record is at 3:03-3:19. I literally bob my head no matter where i am.n | | 7 | Spoils
I am aware the riff from 1:11-1:16 occurs in other parts of the song. However, this is where the drums go half-time and it really highlights the groove. during the other parts, the drums are doing a blastbeat which has no groove. | | 8 | Wretch
Wretch the intro main riff at 0:00-0:14, bit from 0:33-0:43 which occurs again later on, 1:30-2:18, 2:52-3:29 | | 9 | Goddess Bound
1:06-1:15 (possesses similar groove quality to Sequoia Throne above), 2:03-2:45 | | 10 | Goddess Gagged
Riff from 1:56-2:18, 3:00-end. | |
