| Top 15 Maudlin Of The Well Songs
With the release of Part the Second, motW have become the ONLY band i've listened to these
past couple days. I wanted to make this a top 10, but really felt like I was leaving too many
songs out. I still feel like there's a handful more I could include, I really love every single song
they've put out. Incredibly hard to rank, but this is in order (though the first 3 are highly
interchangable) | 1 | maudlin of the Well Heaven and Weak | 2 | Geography | 3 | Birth Pains of Astral Projection | 4 | Blight of River Systems | 5 | Gleam in Ranks | 6 | Ferocious Weights | 7 | Laboratories of the Invisible World | 8 | Excerpt From 6 Trillion Miles Before the First.... | 9 | The Blue Ghost/Shedding Qliphoth | 10 | They Aren't All Beautiful | 11 | Catharsis of Sea-Sleep and Dreaming Shrines | 12 | Bizarre Flower/A Violent Mist | 13 | A Conception Pathetic | 14 | Riseth He, The Numberless (parts 1 and 2) | 15 | Rose Quartz Turning to Glass | |

Heaven and Weak - At the moment, I consider this the absolute pinnacle of Toby Driver's work. There is not one moment of this song that I don't adore, from the dreamy, ethereal first half, to the heavy, chaotic second half. This is pure musical bliss.
Geogrpahy - Probably the most beautiful song I've ever listened to. I was not entirely fond of this song at first but it has grown to be one of my favorite songs of all time. The climax at the end never ceases to give me chills.
Birth Pains of Astral Projection - The 3 minute intro may be just a little too long, but when the song actually gets started it is easily amongst Driver's best material. The mixture of growled vocals and serenely sung vocals is perfect on this track especially.
Blight of River Systems - This is just such a fun and uplifting song to listen to. The vocal interplay between Toby and the female singer is impeccable, as is the guitar solo that closes the song.
Gleam in Ranks - Despite being relatively short for a motW track, there really is a lot packed into this 4 minute track. Nothing else to say really except it rules. | Yazz_Flute
05.16.09 | guess I should shorten the descriptions up...
Ferocious Weights - There's just something about the eery atmosphere this song conveys that causes me to love it so much. I really love the female vocals and how it slowly builds to one of motW's most chaotic passages ever, before descending back to the way it began.
Laboratores of the Invisible World - I'm still giving time for the tracks on Part the Second to Grow on me, but this was probably my favorite track. Just and all around excellent song.
Excerpt From 6 Trillion Miles Before the First...... - Such a peaceful 11 minutes...I really love the brief snare fill that kicks the song back in to gear about 8:30 in.
The Blue Ghost - this is probably my favorite instrumental of all time. It's just so dream and ethereal, perfect song to sleep to.
They Aren't All Beautiful - The extreme contrast between this and The Blue Ghost works perfectly imo. Some excellent death metal here. | Yazz_Flute
05.16.09 | Catharsis of Sea-sleep and Dreaming Shrines - This song has a little bit of everything, and really showcases the future of Driver's work in motW.
Bizarre Flower/A Violent Mist - My only complaint is that the strange ambient section in the middle may be a bit long. I dig the chimes in the beginning though, and the guitar solo at the end is one of their best.
A Conception Pathetic - Probably motW's most br00t4l and chaotic song to date. It's amazing to see how they could write a song like this and a song like "Geography."
Riseth He, the Numberless (parts 1 and 2) - Very well-executed duo. Both include some of motW's best metal riffing.
Rose Quartz Turning to Glass - The violin really shines in this song. Beautiful. | luci
