Just a few albums that went from great to mind-blowing for me. |
1 | | The Fiery Furnaces Blueberry Boat
Just listened to this for the second time yesterday. "How did I miss all that?" I thought. I love the way "Paw Paw Tree" and "Spaniolated" build up from cool instrumentals into Eleanor's pure songwriting awesomeness. Simply spectacular. |
2 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Always loved this one, but reading the 33 1/3 book by Kim Cooper gave me an even better perspective. I highly recommend the book for those of you that love this album. |
3 | | Radiohead OK Computer
Ah, so much has been said, and yet there's still so much to say. I was a little disappointed at first, but further exploration proves that this lives up to every single ounce of hype. Definitely in my top 3 of all time. |
4 | | Animal Collective Feels
Before Merriweather came out, I was surprised to learn that most people thought this was the best AC album. I always liked it, but I thought Strawberry Jam and Sung Tongs were much better. Upon further listens, I've discovered that this simply isn't true. The slower songs contain a surprising level of emotional depth, and I'll be damned if "The Purple Bottle" doesn't feel like the best music anyone's ever made. |
5 | | TV on the Radio Return to Cookie Mountain
RTCM is hella layered, but if you can get past the initial doubt that most of the songs sound the same then this album will unlock hidden corridors in your mind. |
6 | | Bloc Party Silent Alarm
Nothing too experimental here, but this album is just so tight. If you can dig "Banquet" or "Helicopter", then you need this. |
