Pretty self-explanatory. These albums took a while to grow on me, but I thoroughly enjoy them
now. Enjoy! Recommendations welcome :) | | 1 | | The Mars Volta De-Loused in the Comatorium
For a while my favorite TMV album was Bedlam in Goliath, but upon recent listens I fell in love with De-
Loused. No wonder it's their highest rated (I never understood that until now)! | | 2 | | Radiohead OK Computer
This was my first Radiohead album and, while it didn't take long to grow on me, I severely underestimated it
on my first few listens. | | 3 | | Porcupine Tree Lightbulb Sun
Definitely not as accessible as some of their more recent albums (Deadwing, FOABP), but I have come to find
this album on par with their best work. I don't really know why, but I just connect with this album. | | 4 | | Isis Panopticon
I didn't like that there wasn't as much melody in this as in some of the other atmospheric metal I had been
listening to, but I realized that a lack of a concrete melody is not really detrimental in any way. Actually, there
are very distinct progressions, just not what I was used to. I really enjoy this album now. | | 5 | | Wolves in the Throne Room Two Hunters
Understandable considering this was my first real foray into any kind of black metal outside of Agalloch. Love
this and Diadem of 12 Stars now. | | 6 | | A Perfect Circle Thirteenth Step
When I first heard this I was disappointed that they didn't really sound like Tool. Then I realized that it's not
Tool. Then I loved it. | | 7 | | Gustav Holst The Planets Suite, for orchestra, Op. 32
Totally underestimated this on first listen. The suite really captures a wide spectrum of emotion. I only wish
he did an "Earth" track, although I suppose F#A# (INF) is the "Earth" album... | | 8 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Yanqui U.X.O
Speaking of Godspeed, this album is really underrated because it doesn't hit you right away like Lift Your
Skinny Fists... or F#A# (INF). But Rocket Fall On Rocket Falls and Motherfucker = Redeemer (Part One) are
two amazing tracks. | | 9 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
My first indie album, I wasn't really ready for it. Since then I've listened to some more indie and grown to
appreciate this more. I think this and Beirut's The Flying Club Cup are my favorite indie albums right now,
but I have a lot to listen to. | | 10 | | Tool Lateralus
I feel like 50% of the people who don't like this album haven't listened to it enough. While I believe that it is
possible to dislike this album, I think it deserves many listens before an opinion can be truly formulated. At
least that's how it worked for me... | |

02.10.09 | Yay for 10/10 artwork! | PanasonicYouth
02.10.09 | I love 1, 9, and 10 on first listen. They're like. Amazing. Especially 1. | KILL
02.10.09 | I agree with 10..i found it so boring but when i listened to it enough times i started to dig it and now i love it | dankeyes11
02.10.09 | UhhKris: props for loving 1 on first listen! it took me a while to get into TMV in general because of the chaos. You gotta love the chaos though haha
KILL: so true | ASberg
02.10.09 | I would say Moonsorrows V: Havitetty and Edge Of Sanitys Crimson. They still grow on me every time i listen to them, which isnt very often but still. 2 and 10 arnt doing anything for me and i dont think they ever will. | dankeyes11
02.10.09 | ASberg: I'll check those albums out, thanks. And I respect your opinion on 2 and 10, they seem to fit a mindset more than a musical taste and that makes the albums polarizing, in a way. | Mendigo
02.10.09 | the only one on here that really took a long time to grow is 10 (I haven't heard 7 though)
but with pretty much all of the others here I've heard some of their other material before those albums so I already knew what to expect. maybe that's the reasen it didn't take so long for me to get into them.
and 9 is still the only album that was a 5/5 classic for me from the very first listen until now. | Mendigo
02.10.09 | oh yeah, recommendations...
Pelican, Neurosis, Oceansize, Marillion, Ulver, The Decemberists, maudlin of the Well | dankeyes11
02.10.09 | Mendigo: Ya most of these I was hearing for the first time so they took a while. And good recommendations - I haven't been able to find maudlin of the Well anywhere, so I'm probably gonna have to check Amazon or eBay or something. | SeaAnemone
02.10.09 | 1 and 2 took a while for me to appreciate too... but now I love them unconditionally. 9 was a first-listen thing, maybe that's why it's my #1 of all-time. | SeaAnemone
02.10.09 | p.s.- I always thought your username was dank-eyes... but I see now your name is dan keyes. just thought i'd clear that up. | willfellmarsy
02.10.09 | 1 shud be amputechture | Apostle7
02.11.09 | When I read the name of the list and the explanation, I was wondering if Thirteenth Step would show up. It did and I totally agree. | Chewie
02.11.09 | TMV's best album is Frances The Mute
Rockets Fall On Rocket Falls is fucking amazing | TricksterGRex
02.11.09 | 10 worked backwards for me, I loved it at first but now I find it mediocre. | dankeyes11
02.11.09 | Some interesting responses from everyone
SeaAnemone: Ya I put my name up there to clarify - dank eyes has always been a favorite nickname of my friends, even though I don't really have dank eyes haha. And 9 is fantastic, but I was so new to indie genre that I was taken aback at first. I can understand how it could be love at first listen, though!
Willfellmarsy: That's a good point - Amputechture is definitely their least acclaimed album and it might be because it hasn't received enough listens. I'm definitely going to go back and re-check that one out.
Apostle7: Seems like you had a similar experience with A Perfect Circle haha.
derekchewie11: I thought that too...but now I'm not so sure. With some artists, I seem to go back and forth on which album is my favorite. And yes it is fucking amazing haha.
TricksterGRex: That's too bad; maybe you wore it out? Although I feel like that would be impossible for me haha. | AggravatedYeti
02.11.09 | really? | dankeyes11
02.15.09 | really what? |
