01.28.09 | The first song by a band I learned was Still Day Beneath the Sun by Opeth. Sounds harder than it is and it is good for developing finger picking. |

01.28.09 | Still Day Beneath the Sun is also quite enjoyable to play on piano. But seriously, there is so much good acoustic stuff out there I'd have no idea where to even begin. |

01.28.09 | -Foo Fighters - Everlong
-Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop
-Metallica - One and Fade to Black (intros)
-Dead Kennedys - Police Truck (not as difficult as it sounds but it definitely took some practice. I'd say more of a beginner/intermediate as opposed to beginner)
-blink-182 - Stay Together For The Kids and What's My Age Again
-Greenday - American Idiot
Those were songs I played rather frequently during the first six months or so of starting guitar. Hope this helps, I stalked your album ratings so this list would (hopefully) be moderately compatible with your tastes.

01.28.09 | oh and yeah, "wish you were here" was one of the first i learnt, and i really rewarding experience. i suggest you try and learn the whole thing/all parts. :) also karma police is a pretty boring song but sounds great to play. |

01.28.09 | two more (lol, sorry) - both david bowie tracks, "the man who sold the world" - both good for chords and the tiny little riffs. also ziggy stardust, which just sounds really awesome once more. good luck with learning :) |

01.28.09 | You're in the exact same boat I am, drummer learning guitar.
Learn some Death Cab! I know you love em like I do. Learn the acoustic version of Sound Of Settling.
Without a doubt though, learn A Lack Of Color. Talk about a song that's easy to finger pick...it's so gorgeous and so much fun to play though! I guarantee you'll always find yourself playing it from that point on. |
