Arcarsenal

It's A Wonderful Life

Thomas Kalnoky is a wonderful lyricist, and seamlessly weaves a tragic story through a beautiful string and horn section.

6Catch 22
As The Footsteps Die Out Forever

Loved this song for it's catchy horns right from the get-go, but when I read the lyrics, my heart broke.
6
7Defiance, Ohio
Condition 11:11

Good things happen when you play this song. That is a proven fact.
7
8Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Storm

My favourite Godspeed song, I can see the stages of a storm as I play this. The calm, the build up, the climax, the aftermath.
8
9Incubus
New Skin

Don't really have a solid reason for why I love this song, I just do.
9
10The Mars Volta
Cicatriz Esp

Favourite Mars Volta song.
10
11Muse
Hyper Music

This song would be nothing without that baseline.
11
12Neutral Milk Hotel
Holland, 1945

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea in general blows me away with it's poetic nature, and simple yet beautiful songwriting. This song embodies all of that.
12
13No Cash
The Lucky Few

I love this song. Not my absolute favourite, but I love the name so much, I named my solo endeavor after it. Oh, and my username too.
13
14Oasis
Cast No Shadow

As he faced the sun, he cast no shaadooowww.
14
15Porcupine Tree
Trains

This song is an absolute masterpiece. A gorgeous acoustic beginning, an epic distorted ending. Every song should be like this.
15
16Protest The Hero
The Divine Suicide Of K.

I feel like I have to be discreet about my love for Protest The Hero, for fear of being labeled a scenester. Fuck it, I love them.
16
17Radiohead
Reckoner

Have I used the adjective beautiful already?
17
18Radiohead
Let Down

My favourite off of OK Computer, which is one of my favourite albums ever.
18
19Say Anything
Alive With The Glory Of Love

If love had a soundtrack, it would sound like this.
19
20Sigur Rós
Ágćtis Byrjun

First heard this song on their documentary Heima. It had me captivated from beginning to end. Studio version almost lives up to that performance.
20
21Sigur Rós
Untitled 8

And here we come to, quite possibly, the greatest song my ears have ever heard. This song is beautiful, haunting, and mesmerizing from start to end. Easily my favourite song of all time.
21
22Streetlight Manifesto
A Better Place, A Better Time

Great message, great lyrics, and catchy as hell. Thomas Kalnoky at his finest.
22
23Thrice
Atlantic

This is the best side of Thrice in my opinion. Yeah, the hardcore's cool. The experimental and acoustic is pretty good. The soaring chorus, and haunting keyboard are top-notch.
