08.16.26 | Greetings brother, good to see the site active again.
Ad 1. Yes.
Ad 2. Yes.
Ad 3. I may not necessarily agree but that's only because I haven't listened to them that much. Also, they influenced bands like Turbo and Kat that pioneered Polish heavy metal in the 80s, so more power to them. | charbyno

Several years ago I'd have found this laughable, but upon hearing the vast majority of their (specifically) '80s output, this is actually a very solid assertion. I wouldn't necessarily disagree. | Pascarella
08.18.26 | @arthropod, my dear sputinik brother... I listen to them since I was a teenager (I'm getting old, brother!). The 3 bands mentioned here are like the godfathers of heavy metal to me! But Maiden has a very special place in my heart.
As my grandpa used to say: "They live in my heart and don't pay any rent". | Pascarella
08.18.26 | @IsisScript80, really, bro? Specifically the '80s!? Wow! That's the golden era, brother! How is that possible? LOL | arthropod
08.18.26 | I guess that my special band is Metallica, they have always been a huge part of my life. Although, Wasting Love is among the most important songs of my childhood so I might not know Maiden's discography, but I still have fond memories of their music. | IsisScript80
08.19.26 | Ha! @Pascarella... TBH, I've had a bit of journey with Iron Maiden... I grew up thinking they were kinda shite, and one of THE most overrated bands in existence. I thought that their fanship lacked discernment, and were basically on a basic bitch bandwagon (a "BBB", if you will, lol). This, was ENTIRELY down to--what I still maintain to this day--terrible exposure via singles.
Almost everything they released that I heard as singles, I didn't like... stuff like "Can I Play with Madness", "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter" (which is still pretty awful)... even "Run to the Hills" I thought was average at best, just further consolidating this notion that they were an overly lauded relic, undeserving of the praise. I always dug the aesthetic; the album covers, Eddie the mascot... very little else. The only single I heard that I unreservedly liked was "Fear of the Dark", but if felt like an outlier, with little else to justify the hype. And it was like that for yeeaaars.
Gradually, through live exposure via TV music channels, I started seeing/hearing some of the things I was missing out on... stuff like "The Clairvoyant", 'The Evil That Men Do", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", then I somehow got exposed to the title track of the album "Powerslave", had my full "zOmG" moment, and have since done a 180 on my opinion on this band... they're frickin' PHENOMENAL!
To this day, I don't blame myself for my initial impressions of them... I still think their single selection sucks (like, "Can I Play with Madness' is still far and away my least favourite song on 'Seventh Son...'), but happy I got there in the end.
And that's my Maiden "cool story, Bro" moment... |
