07.14.26 | I will update the list with yours too. |

07.14.26 | I like this list! And I can relate. I only fully discovered The Mars Volta last year and it made me question what the heck I'd been doing for the last 20 years not listening to them. |
Deez
07.14.26 | Weird one but Alice in Chains - Dirt, was never a big AIC fan, I was a teen when it dropped and I was more into death metal and stuff at the time and most stuff that was more well known i always brushed off cos I was an elitist little shit and wanted to be more underground but even over the years AIC have done nothing for me but recently started to vibe with Dirt quite a lot out of nowhere. |

07.14.26 | Recently listened to "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath for the first time ever. Considering how much metal I enjoy and also that I play in a metal band too, I probably should have given it a try much sooner than a couple weeks ago.
It was... fine. I can see why it's such a foundational classic for the genre, though. |

07.14.26 | @MTO - I've always preferred Master Of Reality over Paranoid, I'd recommend checking it out if you haven't already. |

07.14.26 | Nice idea. To me, that album would be Crack the Skye. I've been aware of Mastodon for years and listened to some of their stuff quite regularly, but I only got into that album after buying a copy a few weeks ago. One of the easiest 5s I've ever given. |
KjSwantko
07.14.26 | Symbolic best album of all time agreed. RIP the master- Chuck. |

07.14.26 | Honestly, the more I think about this list the more answers I could provide lol. There are LOTS of classics, both obscure and mainstream, that I likely would've never bothered to check out had it not been for this site. |

07.14.26 | Yeah, know what you mean. Sput has been great for discovering stuff and I certainly have. |
MTObsidian
07.15.26 | @Platypus I'll give that one a try at some point! |
TheSupernatural
07.15.26 | I got into Dream Theater last year after ignoring them for a long time. Too many albums to listen to all of them (well, before I'd lose interest) but Train of Thought is a banger front to back and much better than the album art would have you think. |
Squiggly
07.15.26 | I heard Richard Dawson’s Peasant for the first time recently and thought, holy hell this is so up my alley it’s ridiculous. Weird ass folk music with a consistent concept and gang vocals and flutes and a drum sound that slaps HARD. Not even particularly popular around here either, just a hidden gem of a record. |

07.15.26 | I was late to Bowery Electric
still kicking myself for not knowing it earlier |

07.15.26 | I was late to Bowery Electric too, Beat album rules. I still need to check their other albums. |
BigTuna
07.15.26 | This is embarrassing, but I never listened to The Beatles' White Album or Revolver all the way through until this year. Both are obviously incredible. |
MTObsidian
07.15.26 | @Tuna, if it's any consolation, I uh, have never listened to any album by the Beatles to this day... |
brickhed
07.16.26 | Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
you would think after listening to a ton of 90's brutal death metal and slam that i would try out the band that started it all. sidestepped their whole catalog for a while until i gave their first album a listen. not only a cool relic of the genre, it also is awesome on it's own. at first i thought it was okay, and has been growing on and off of me for a while. right now its grown, but i think Breeding the Spawn aligns more with my death metal taste.
now all i need to do is finally listen to Brodequin and i'll be all caught up on all of the modern bdm clone bands nowadays |
budgie
07.16.26 | i ignored alcest for so long because i think the anime album art style was stupid |
Demon of the Fall
07.16.26 | I probably should've gotten to Janet Jackson, Sade & Everything But the Girl somewhat earlier
or like virtually any folk artist I now enjoy, lol |
Jmal00
07.16.26 | Somehow it’s nightwish for me. Thought it was incredibly gay on first listen in like 2016. it turns out it was incredibly gay yet in the cool gay way when I tried again in like 2024 |
CrisStyles
07.16.26 | Superunknown - Soundgarden
Never listened to the band outside of "Black Hole Sun" when Rock Band first came out and despite being a big fan of Audioslave when I was growing up. Glad to have finally gotten around to this recently because it absolutely rocks. It's been in heavy rotation over the past month. |

07.16.26 | Turning out to be a banger list. Thanks for comments, I’m adding your best quotes too.
@Squiggly - I listened to Peasant album this morning, your description was accurate it went well with my highly caffeinated java. Good stuff |
gabba
07.17.26 | While listening to the likes of GY!BE and Mogwai a lot, I slowly got bored of post-rock and thought it would be cooler with heavier riffs and some vocals. Then I found ISIS, which led me to Cult of Luna, and eventually, to Neurosis. So I realized such music existed for long, it’s called post-metal, and it’s beautiful. |
Koris
07.17.26 | Oh man, I've got a few of these, lol.
I guess the main one I'll go with is Nightfall by Candlemass. For the longest time, I only listened to Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, since it's often been regarded as their undisputed masterpiece and I didn't think their other stuff could ever match up. But finally, at the tail end of 2024, I listened to Nightfall in full for the first time. And honestly, I thought it was even better than the debut (and still do). Messiah really was the last piece of the puzzle to turn Candlemass into the absolute legends they are now, and his vocals and stage presence were instrumental in setting a template for future doom acts to follow. On top of all that, the music itself is just fucking amazing. Bewitched, Samaritan, The Well of Souls, At the Gallows End... banger after banger on that tracklist
As a bonus, I'm also going to mention Mandylion by The Gathering, as well as The Gathering's whole discog in general. Crazy how I listened to so much gothic metal and death-doom over the years, without ever checking out one of the biggest pioneers of both genres. But yeah, absolutely fantastic band. Mandylion was my introduction to them in 2024, and I was instantly hooked... great atmosphere, thick doomy riffs, and of course, the legendary vocals of Anneke van Giersbergen |

07.17.26 | @gabba I highlighted ISIS Live 6 because it has the best 3 song run of In Fiction to Holy Tears to Weight, 30 minutes of live post-rock/metal bliss.
@Koris Nightfall rules, I recently picked up EDM on vinyl |
