Listening to SFU for the first time

I have ofc heard tracks here and there over the years but never gone out of my way to listen to an album. i dont usually actively seek out shite, but given they are everyones favourite punching bag decided to give them a go. are they that bad or just easy pickings?? lets find out. running list as i listen

def picking up the obituary vibes on the riffs particularly the tempo switches to the slower patches. decent grooves but man the vocals get monotonous quick. so weak and lacking in power, passion, range or... anything. this is like a c-tier Obituary or Pestilence album without the killer vocals. every song really blends together, using seemingly the same riff, vocals, and drums, just so samey. its all so basic. im not saying all death metal or extreme metal needs to be technical or complex, but something to hold your attention and stand out. stop-start rhythm in 'Human Target' is one of the rare tracks which mix it up but even then the riffs are the same. 'Suffering In Ecstacy' was thank god a faster paced track which i was dying for, and some clean leads coming over the down tuned riffs. they aint good but at least they are SOMETHING. chris vocals are pretty monster-like, but they just so one-note.
