| Full album listening session
Right before the big sput crash I did a really fun listening session with my friend. We picked two albums neither of us heard before and listened to them in full (smoking a joint before each of them of course). It turned out great! Here are the picks. | | 1 | | Ronker Fear Is A Funny Thing, Now Smile Like A Big Boy
I went first because my suggested record was slightly shorter. I went through my sput recommendations list and I picked this cool noise rock/post-HC hybrid from Belgium. I'm not sure if I had the name written down thanks to Futures' or Hawks' review but it caught my attention. And oh boy was this a fun listen! We enjoyed this one so much because of its unpredictability and energetic genre mashup, you never know what happens in the next minute (being exposed to Boys in the Elevator high as fuck was really something haha). Sometimes I'd say these guys really want to sound like Idles but they like some speed metal riffs a little too much. In the best possible way of course! Every track here goes all in. It also benefits from the full album listening experience, last two tracks take this unexpected genre turn which is super enjoyable. Highly recommended! | | 2 | | Amiture Amiture Music
Moving on, my friend picked a random recommendation from an IG profile called Outside Noise. They compared this album to BC,NR, which is a connection I probably wouldn't come up with. Anyways, this is a strange post-punk / art rock album from a band I've never heard of that I had to add to the database and it absolutely blew me away. My 5/5 is maybe a little overstated but I really want to hype this record to sput because it deserves to be heard! In a strange way it makes a perfect double program with that Ronker album, again, we came up with different associations with each new track - some hints of new weird Britain style rock bands may be there, but it has also some classic post-punk vibes, alt indie stuff like Ought and Geese, Twilight Sad, Interpol, tasty noise and math-rock passages and even some prog tendencies like Oceansize. Strange vocal delivery may be no go for someone, but instrumentally it is perfect, simple but effective, fantastic drumming, original song structures etc. | | 3 | | Amiture Amiture Music

It sounds very raw and minimalistic, but also has huge hits like Mountain. The first listening experience was truly otherwordly, again with a very effectively placed weird interlude (Romance - it suddenly sounds like Have a Nice Life or something). Listening to this again (not high), it is not as unpredictable as it sounded, but I still think it's brilliant. Highly recommended #2 !! | |
